🟠 innocence lost
illustration of my original character, boris velasco
he stares directly at the viewer with a bright orange glow in his eyes, dark hair blowing in the wind. he wears a light blue pajamas, and holds out his hands to cup a single, faint glow of a butterfly.
Around him flock dozens of ravenous crows, sharing the same menacing glow in their eyes. they are all aimed for what is in his hands at full speed.

Description:
This illustration pertains to much of Boris' character in general. His succumb to hopelessness, seeking power instead of love, losing his innocence and his whimsy.
The frail butterfly symbolizes what remains of his inner child (this is also why Boris likes Aiden, who i also associated with butterflies, because he subconsciously reminds Bo of who he used to be) and the crows are the jaded violence he has been taught to use to feel less small. By habit, they seek to destroy any traces of incorruption - because what if it makes him the weak one again?

Hi all! I’m so excited to share The GM’s Menagerie of Monsters!!! Written by @dungeondad.bsky.social and completely hand-illustrated by yours truly, it features over 50 new monsters for your #dnd 5e/5.5e table! Pick it up IN STORES February 2nd 2027, or preorder now with this link: linktr.ee/GMMoM
A book cover for the Game Master’s Menagerie of Monsters, featuring, from front to back, a tiefling woman with a black bob cut and one broken horn, dressed in leather asymmetrical armor and wielding one sword of light and one of fire; upon her shoulder, a small acorn knight with an autumn leaf cape; a pale woman with mascara tear marks on her face and long oil-slick-black hair wearing full plate armor wields a massive warhammer; a construct made of plate mail and glass containing a green smoky ghost inside looms over them, wielding a maul and a greatshield. Behind them, another construct of plate mail, this time of gleaming silver with black smoke pouring out of a frogs-mouth helm, stands at the ready. Above it all, a hellish pale nude headless figure with four blood red wings and a sword of pure dark energy eclipses the sun.

i think ppl would be a lot happier and better-adjusted on here if they realized that being online on a website is like being in any other casual public space full of people. if u walk into walmart u dont immediately think to yourself “i have to be friends with everyone in this walmart and if not everyone likes me i’m a failure” and u really shouldn’t feel that way online either. likewise if there’s a guy in the walmart parking lot shouting obscenities u probably wouldn’t answer him and that’s literally an exact equivalent to some of the weird stuff that people on here seem to feel they’re obligated to respond to.

Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things. Here’s a blurb on what I mean:
Some thoughts:
When using GenAi as a mood board you don't get sources. This means you deprive yourself from knowledge.
You generated a location? You deprived yourself of knowing more about the interesting parts of the world and why things came to be.
Generate an armor or costume? You deprived yourself on real world techniques, function, form and history.
You generated art inspirations? You deprive yourself of learning about artists from history or lock out living ones from potentially being hired.
Ethical issues of using GenAi models aside, one ends up making visuals mood boards devoid of reality and history. With it one deprives themselves from learning about our world and who is living in it, inadvertently making your work weaker, because of how detached it is from our shared human reality and history.

We'll keep on pointing at this comic by @skutchdraws.bsky.social and @hbomberguy.bsky.social until it's embarrassing for tech bros to call you a luddite for hating AI! More of Failure to Launch in the link bsky.app/profile/iron...
"Curse you spinning jenny, you ruined everything!" A simpleton looking peasant yells as they smash the wooden machine.

The standard narrative goes that LUDDITES were foolish lunatics who, in fear of technology, decided progress was bad, and started hitting it with sticks. (But the truth is entire ways of life were being destroyed.)

Previously, skilled craftsmen were respected for the time and effort it took to do their work. The entire family usit would form a cottage industry - creating something valuable, and command a decent living. But when a machine can work 10 times faster its owner can charge less for the prodcts- craftsmen couldn't compete and were left out of work almost overnight.

And as factories became a fixture of the british landscape, these now unemployed labourers often ended up working the factories that had just destroyed their way of life. Britain was the most prosperous nation in history, factory owners became extremely wealthy and influential. But the people doing the actual work saw almost none of it.

Stoker definitely depicted him as a predatory animal without any seduction or romantic context. Other depictions of vampires in literature where very different though and the vampires where often Byronic in nature and seduction played a bigger part. Princes Weekes made a fantastic video about this!

The Churchyard's Watchful Protector
In a snow-covered churchyard in front of a large gothic church, a large black dog with glowing eyes sits among the graves. The graves are weathered and covered in lichens, and capped with snow. Behind them stands a grand gothic stone church with many large indicate windows separated by buttresses (each topped by a pinnacle), with a tall central bell tower. Around it to the right are tall but bare trees. All are set against a smooth blanket-like cloudscape.
