I am always delighted to meet someone who has a job where my kneejerk instinct is "oh I could NEVER", or someone who thinks my job is boring. How wonderful to live in a time and place where we can choose our careers!

imagine the comedy potential of Kermit trying to pivot to a podcast for interviews because that’s what everyone else is doing, so we are watching onscreen as absolute chaos unfolds which he is trying to keep silent so listeners don’t know Gonzo is trapped in the ceiling

the most bonkers thing about this is that if a network was smart they could literally use this as free marketing. have the stars of all your other projects guest as themselves, as if in this world the standard “my movie opens this week” circuit is like Good Morning America, Kimmel and The Muppets

Me, last year, trying to replace my 2003 Element. I ended up with the 2025 CRV LX, but I'm not thrilled I don't have a CD player, Aux jack, or way to play music off a device too old for CarPlay.

It's interesting to compare to another dammed-river-valley lake I've been in regularly - Smith Lake in Alabama - because they DON'T have such a high number of drownings.

I genuinely wonder if the weird right wing insistence on her neutrality had to do with the fact that she performed hyperfemininity. They saw her makeup and hair and tight clothes and that excused her clearly progressive politics. I also wonder if Dolly knew exactly that would happen.

I think that Dolly Parton was, for a lot of people, an ambassador of the "good" values people think of about the South: kindness, hospitality, can-do spirit, sharp and witty and down to earth. I think for a segment of people, too, she was theantithesis of a lot of noxious masculine country stuff.

But the coolest thing about "9 to 5" is actually its utopian imagination: the flexi-job implementation, the construction of a daycare center for working women, and the installation of equal pay. All feasible solutions that Dolly, Lily Tomlin & Jane Fonda dared us to dream about.

I recommend to you this podcast series about Dolly Parton by Jad Abumrad (creator of Radio Lab). You may ask: how did a MacArthur Award winning pub radio guy meet Dolly? Because she personally funded his father's vaccine research, that's how. www.wnycstudios.org/podcasts/dol...

We actually know what moderating Trump looks like, because there were people who tried to do that in his first term, and while I don't thank those assholes, we know that the thing Trump did when he got a second bite of the apple was get rid of those losers.

If Alabama hasn't had enough people agree to amend their clusterfuck of a Constitution yet, I think it'll take longer than 20 more years to get the US Constitution done. (Born and raised in Alabama, here)

Great article, and also fuck this shit. Imagine thinking that "sure, one option to upending your life to take a test we could not administer is that you should just take the bar exam in February" is a remotely reasonable remedy.

You always have the right to remain silent. If an officer tells you anywhere other than the point of entry that you should give them your device password, you can just say "I invoke my right to remain silent." You don't have to give them anything.

And sometimes you will still have to double-check—mine filled my 90-day with the Bad Kind this time, because they only had 80 of the Good Kind. (I said "no I want the good kind, void the 10 as long as state law will let me fill again at 78 instead of 88" and they did!)

Grain of salt because I am not great at the theology, but it's only sin if it is KNOWING and INTENTIONAL. So if you genuinely didn't know it wasn't licit, and stop when you find out it's invalid, and take steps to rectify it, you're good.

I squatted in a seat much better than the one I’d paid for and directly across the court from the Rolex suite. After 20 or minutes or so, the stands were still nearly empty. Soon the start time was moved to 2:30 and reports were rolling in online that the security lines had swelled while irate ticket holders remained stuck outside. It quickly became obvious that entry hadn’t just slowed—it had stopped almost entirely, even as the new start time approached. This was obviously strategic: Trump was expected to be back out on the balcony for the National Anthem and an emptier stadium would dull the potential negative reaction that USTA had anticipated. 5,000 people couldn’t be nearly as loud as the full capacity of nearly 24k.

it's true that a few of the uses shown (whether by pattie or others) plays on patagonia's registered logos. the brand could be entitled to a narrow injunction prohibiting those kinds of uses. i just don't think a broader one covering the name w/ merch is necessary.

Short form: The second one is in the business of selling clothes, has used the name for years, and plans to keep doing so. The third one picked their name to reference the second, and has applied for a trademark registration to sell clothes. This is a bog-standard dispute over commercial activity.

Saying "Patagonia is the name of a region, can Chile or Argentina sue Patagonia like they're suing Pattie Gonia" might sound like some clever gotcha... In reality it's just another way of saying "I am way over my skis and commenting on something I don't understand anything about"

To be really clear, Patagonia did not sue to stop Pattie Gonia, the drag queen, from using the stage name. Patagonia sued Pattie Gonia Productions to stop them from trademarking & selling Pattie Gonia apparel in competition - seeking damages of $1. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
