I think it was a LOT of people's first Metroid, more than you or I ever realized. And the SA-X seems to haunt us all. Probably because of THIS fucking scene which is the only GIF that pops up when you search for it. It's quiet, lonely already. AND THEN THIS THING FUCKING LOOKS AT YOU.

Going back and watching Metroid Fusion scenes, this was really Metroid starting to hit the gas on embracing its Space-Horror roots. Almost no VO, all text and music, and it all chills you to the bone. In Fusion, Samus is the smallest she'll ever be. Poorly protected and being hunted.
