Get in folks, we're building the missing middle, right here in Edmonton! Small-scale infill (5-8plexes in mature neighbourhoods) is now the single largest source of Edmonton's new housing supply. 22% of all homes permitted this year!
Line chart showing homes permitted by project type in Edmonton from 2009-2025. Single detached homes (dark blue) peak around 4,500 in 2012. 9+ apartments (light orange) spike dramatically to over 6,000 in 2024. Other categories—additions/conversions, backyard houses, duplexes, fourplexes, and larger multifamily units—remain under 4,000 permits throughout the period. Data source: City of Edmonton Open DataFour line charts showing homes permitted by neighbourhood type and project type in Edmonton from 2009-2025. Top left (Downtown): mostly flat, under 500 homes permitted annually across all project types. Top right (Mature): volatile orange line (9+ apartments) peaks near 3,000 in 2025; other project types remain under 500. Bottom left (Between mature and Henday): navy line (single detached) dominates, fluctuating 1,000-1,800; orange line (9+ apartments) peaks around 2,000 in 2024. Bottom right (Outside Henday): navy line (single detached) leads, reaching 2,700-2,900 in 2021 and 2023; orange line (9+ apartments) spikes to 2,500 in 2024. Legend shows seven project types in dark navy to coral gradient. Data from Jacob Dawang, City of Edmonton Open Data.

Is infill "destroying" Edmonton's neighbourhoods? Here are the facts: 📊 Only 1% of RS-zoned properties redeveloped since 2024 🏡 Half of new units have 3+ bedrooms 🚇 Density is clustering near LRT 📉 Most mature neighbourhoods have fewer people than 50 years ago #yeg #yegcc #yimby

Everything on the chopping block now to accommodate said parking and the fear of the province stepping in. It's a lot of stuff that may never see the light of day. Good job on Vision Zero @thecityofedmonton.bsky.social, I'm sure this will help!! #yegbike #bikesky
All of the ATNE for the City of Edmonton around Capilano and Bonnie Doon. All the bike infrastructure is now delayed forever or due for major changes. The Glenora and Jasper Place areas see their ATNE lanes mostly cut forever potentially. And 64 St. has now also been put on hold potentially forever.

This photo shows you just how insane it is that cars get that many lanes in the core of all places. 2 of those should be bus only lanes right off the bat, add a dual bike lane and you've got a hella good Jasper at that point.

"But what about the little old ladies, the disabled, emergency vehicles, nobody cycles in Edmonton, it's 8 months of winter, it's too far, it causes congestion, they don't pay taxes, cyclists constantly break the law, this is the bike lobbys work" I'm sure would be the comments on Facebook 😂

I've been watching it get built at a snails pace every time I pass it on my commute to and from work. Shocking as it's such a relatively simple connection that should've been built in like a week or so, give or take.

I swear drivers in Edmonton are allergic to using their directionals. So many times I roll up to a stop only to see a blinker flip on mid-turn. Thanks buddy!

I'm pretty sure that YEG and Edmonton account also run those other scummy clickbait farms like Northly, YEGWave and UrbaEdmonton. If not the same person they certainly style themselves the same way and all of these accounts report on the same ragebait stories constantly.

Heads up #yegbike folks, if you're using the 119 Ave. bike lanes, there's a huge downed branch by 94 St. in the lane! That pic was as of 3am last night (July 28th). Lots of small broken branches all over the place too, careful riding out there!

They're clearly incompetent/ignorant or both. They should be crowing about bringing back "Municipal Freedom" or something along those lines. Don't even need to mention bike lanes, just say we want to give cities the freedom to govern how they choose. Can't even bring themselves to do that much.

Is also annoying that 9 of those same councillors are about to waste $2.5 million more on the 50th St. bike lane to save some 30ish parking spots cause a dozen people bitched enough with a small protest. We should be plowing ahead with safe infrastructure not capitulating for nonsense like this 🤦‍♂️

I can't believe we're about to spend $2.5 million more on this shit to save 30ish parking spots cause a dozen residents showed up to protest like fucking babies. The fact that 9 councillors agreed to this is genuinely embarrassing for them all! #yegbike #yegbike #bikesky www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Edmonton council votes to keep parking while building bike lanes along 50th Street | CBC News
The bike lane debate in Edmonton switched gears Tuesday as city council agreed to keep some parking spots along 50th street from 102nd Avenue to 109A Avenue while installing new protected bike lanes.

The biggest piss off is this was some sort of "win-win" yet every headline today is "50th St. Bike Lane Paused/Cancelled". Great job council! You just gave the blueprint to every other NIMBY dickhead to use against any bike lane they don't like in the future!

You can tell a lot about how a city thinks of cyclists by where they allow dumpster bins to be placed. @thecityofedmonton.bsky.social has sadly failed the test. This could've been placed on the road as it's closed behind the bin anyway. Do better Edmonton. @edmontonanne.bsky.social #yegbike #bikesky
A large red dumpster bin completely blocking a bike lane adjacent to Churchill Square in Edmonton. It should be noted, this is right beside City Hall which makes it all the more stupid it was allowed to happen. It's nighttime in the shot and you can see lights on in a building in the background.

Explored out St. Albert's way and they have some stellar multi-use paths along the Sturgeon River (minus a section or two). I'm always poking at the edges of the Henday now seeing what this city has to offer on a bike. So much left to discover just in the North alone! #yeg #yegbike #bikesky

It also needs to be STRONG infrastructure changes and not pussyfooting around with cheap bumpout barriers, modal filters which don't actually filter cars and a severe lack of raised crossings! Raised crossings, advanced ped lights, no turns on red, more scrambles, proper bumpouts! Gimme, gimme!

Did a 50km bike ride deep into Northern Edmonton. Crossed the Henday and back, watched the storms rolling across the sky, got rained on in the hydro corridor, saw the sun rising the whole time and did my longest ride ever (so far)! A good ride overall I'd say 😍 #yeg #yegbike
Grasshopper (my bike) posed by an early pink sunrise with trees silhouetted. There's thick clouds above and it's morning twilight. A sign that says 216 WEST - Anthony Henday Dr. with a right pointing arrow. My bike is on a multi-use path going over the highway. You can see the path is wet and the sun is still rising. The Edmonton city skyline with the rising sun reflecting off the towers to the blue sky above. You can see a railing from the bridge crossing running along the bottom of the photo.
