They're doing this part now, in case anyone needs proof that it's always cyclical.

It is the opposite of victim advocacy to request someone go through the labor- and trauma-intensive work of providing a one-off resolution; to harm their health & subject them to doxxing so you can gaslight other survivors and create a path that pits the wishes of future victims against each other.

A simple barometer is to mind who people choose to center before [the] victim(s). Especially when it's rooted in a complete misunderstanding of justice frameworks and unironically surrounded by photos of the abuser in the very act of skirting accountability and further multiplying their harm.

Survivors are keenly aware of who is engaging in apologia as our brains put them into the same category of "unsafe" as the abusers themselves. And if one perceives this evolutionary threat model as a threat itself, they can thank it for being alive and recalibrate themselves accordingly.

Watching the trailer, I couldn’t stop thinking about how interesting it could look if they leaned a little more into a Laika aesthetic. Something that has a stop motion look and feel would help give it a little more humanity to it.

The year is 2045. PBOT just finished their seventh public outreach survey about painting sharrows to a residential street that’s been in the works since 1995. I get hit while biking across a high-crash intersection. My insurance claim is denied because of a Bluesky post I made two decades ago.

Starbucks Workers United @sbworkersunited.org · 25/08/2026
🚨BREAKING: Our union of over 12,000 baristas are officially calling for a Starbucks boycott. Read this statement penned by Starbucks workers on why a boycott from ALL customers, allies, and organizations is necessary to fight back against corporate greed:
BOYCOTT STARBUCKS is written inside a zig-zaggy speech bubble against crumbled paper. Beside it are the Starbucks Workers United logo and an image of a coffee cup being poured out.We, the 12,000 and growing members of Starbucks Workers United, call on everyone who stands with working people to boycott Starbucks until they finalize a contract with union baristas and stop union-busting.
What we’re fighting for is simple: a minimum $17/hr wage, enough hours to live on, better staffing in our stores, and basic workplace protections. Every year, our living costs rise but our wages don’t keep up – a growing pressure many American workers are feeling as corporate greed accelerates unchecked in our country.
Starbucks is banking on customers' blind loyalty to the integrity and values this company once stood for in order to keep squeezing them for profits. At a time when working-class people across the country are struggling in a challenging economy, it is no longer possible to be both a Starbucks customer and in support of workers; choosing to spend money at Starbucks is choosing a law breaking corporation over the baristas who make your coffee everyday exactly as you ask for it.
Starbucks has violated U.S. labor law more than any other company in modern history–the NLRB and its judges have found that Starbucks committed hundreds of labor violations and there are currently more than 550 unresolved unfair labor practice charges still pending against the company. Instead of finalizing a fair and reasonable union contract, Starbucks has repeatedly demonstrated a lack of care for the workers who fuel the company’s profits by wasting millions of dollars on AI and technology that doesn’t work, launching countless gimmicky drinks designed to distract from real problems, and inventing pointless policies that do nothing but make our jobs harder.
This ongoing, irrational behavior by Starbucks and its refusal to settle a fair union contract with workers leaves us with no other choice than to call for a boycott. We know when working people stand up together, we win.
No Contract? No Coffee.

(Personally, I don't buy that Amazon wasn't already ingesting streams, at the very least to prototype with. There's no way they saw Tangia eating their lunch by getting popular creators to give up their content and likenesses for cheap gimmicks all these years without doing something about it.)

As we've seen, toggles for such settings can quietly reset upon feature/term changes. And here, the intentional cascade of responsibility required for this to actually protect anyone inherently makes it an illusion of choice.

If my pettiness caused me to vote in a way that single-handedly undermined my stated politics and incentivized billionaires to use my city as a case study to gut others' coffers despite existing data and subject matter experts, it would be a 'leave town and never come back' scenario for me.

I'd sooner hand in my resignation than tell people I think a stadium is more important than teachers, transit, affordable housing, mental health, et al, especially if the sole reason I was council president was due to the racism and conservatism of the people I voted with to screw over taxpayers.

Things are getting heated on the solitaire leaderboards.
A screenshot showing a top 3 leaderboard for a recent Game of the Day on Solitaired.com. The number one position is held by an account named "Not using AI" in all-caps. The second position is held by an account named "User (Long ID Number) Most Exalted Cheater Uses AI". The third position is held by the user with the ID being accused of using AI to cheat by the second place player.

NYC just announced the creation of five "Public Interest Technology [PIT] Crews"—teams that will work with city agencies to build meaningful, "user-first" civic technology—and they rode in on karts, bro. 😭 Wilson and his loser roster could never. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CcbU...

Mamdani is wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and dark gray tie with white polka dots, and the cuntiest little rectangular sunglasses.A somewhat blurry NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani coming out of a sharp right turn on an orange go-kart with a huge smile on his face.

The "don't be scolds" takes are in this same camp. Deflecting any level of accountability and introspection at the expense of victims and anyone who did even marginal diligence. Equally unserious and unsafe people.

Hearing about this stuff as a survivor is compounding. Traumatic that it is so pervasive, traumatic that no one cares. This is the upteenth story about this loser that has me shaking and feeling ill. And that isn't because of him, but because of the sheer amount of his "progressive" defenders.

it needs to start becoming clear that many, many of the best people in the industry are being so affected by the bin fire that ravenous corporations have turned the internet into that they’re leaving it behind it’s bad, and it’s worse without them

These age laws won’t stop anything, they will just do what limitations on clever kids do: create an artificial barrier to get around by any means possible. And on today’s internet, it’s a lot riskier where they’ll find it than me exploiting free Juno accounts to stay up all night on AIM and IRC.

To imply that authenticity can only be determined through the narrow lens of metrics is fundamentally anti-human. And by even existing, parameters that define non-human behavior are exploitable. Emboss is a false promise being used to profit off of vulnerable writers' real fears.

Recently, a script topped rhythm game leaderboards by using ML to train on thousands of hours of real player keystrokes—good and bad—allowing it to mimic human error & progress undetected. If someone really wanted to bypass tools like Emboss, it's trivial. For real writers it flags, it's not.

Can't be overstated how refreshing it is to see statements like this finally cropping up in tech job listings.
A screenshot from the Fangamer's Mid-Level Web Developer job listing showing their "AI Notice". It reads:

AI Notice
Fangamer prohibits the use of GenAI / LLMs like ChatGPT for coding work, but also for basically anything we do. AI is becoming more and more ubiquitous in the tech industry, but we have judged that use to be detrimental to creative thought and productivity. We highly value the human aspects of problem solving, communication, and knowledge acquisition, and work best with like minded people.

It's also a total misunderstanding of the tech that devalues design and implementation the same way people who have undermined the purpose of knowing how to write good CSS in the first place always have, and the web is worse for it. Why learn to sew when there's sweat shops and child labor?
