It's a beautiful 61°, mid-century modern blue skies accented with a scattering of pink clouds, though the landscaping rocks around the apt walkway lean '70s in harvest gold, orange, and avocado green. Leaves are beginning to drop despite the temps that will be close to 90 all week. Good morning.

Stray cat sleeping on Japanese roof tiles. Photography by Takezoo on Ganref
Curled into a tight, peaceful crescent upon a sun-warmed copper roof ledge, a stray tabby cat reposes beneath the heavy eaves of a traditional Japanese structure. Above, rows of dark, undulating ceramic roof tiles (kawara) slope gently downward, dappled with vibrant golden and crimson autumn leaves (ochiba) drifted from overhead branches. Beneath the eaves, vermilion timber trim and clean white rafter ends cast soft shadows over the sleeping feline, whose soft grey coat merges harmoniously with the surrounding textures. The scene radiates an intimate sensory atmosphere: the gentle warmth of sun-soaked copper radiating through thick fur, the crisp rustle of falling leaves skittering across clay tiles, the faint, earthy fragrance of weathered wood and autumn air, and the deep, unbothered hush of a lazy afternoon.
Cats (neko) have occupied a cherished place in Japanese domestic life, folklore, and literature since the Nara period, when they were first brought aboard ships from China to guard sacred Buddhist sutras against rodents. Over centuries, these nimble creatures evolved into ubiquitous companions of urban streetscapes, quiet temple grounds, and classic ukiyo-e woodblock prints, embodying domestic tranquility, good fortune, and independence. The architectural backdrop illustrates traditional Japanese roofing design, where fired clay kawara tiles work in tandem with copper flashing (akagane) to shed seasonal rains and shield structural timbers. This enduring construction reflects monozukuri—the meticulous synthesis of natural materials, precision joinery, and functional metalwork engineered to withstand the elements while aging with dignity.

It's Caturday & while we spent last night with other people's cats, including two reclusive fosters from a hoarding situation my husband quickly won over, I am reminded of one we loved, one we homed, & and one that popped like a can of biscuits once we started feeding her! I miss them all.
Gorgeous male Siamese head shot. In this light, it cannot be seen that his eyes are the color of the sky on the clearest summer day. He is sweet, kind, & loving. He loves women's shoes & his daddy's shoes, too. Really, he's into feet. He once licked my landlord's sandaled toe.Willie. The last born child of Dumplin. We were able to home him. This was taken just before that, maybe a few months after Hurricane Flo. Named for his red hair & larger than life attitude. Ginger tabby kitten on his back, on a blue blanket on a floral couch.Dumplin. Mostly white tabby calico mix. Resting on the back of a couch on a ratty cotton blanket. She is fat & happy. When we rescued her pregnant, scrawny, starving, pitiful soul, she was mostly ribs, nipples, & ears.

I wasn't really watching the (whatever) game the husband had on while I was eating. Happy nothing was exploding, crashing, or yelling on the screen when I heard a lovely voice & looked up. Oh. Commercial. Voice attached to this human. Oh. Does voice work? Yes, over drinks, I would make you do all!
