I made The Blockheads, a mobile game released in 2013 which has been played by more than 50 million people. Now I’m making an alternative to the http protocol: ktp.nz Technology's purpose should be to help people, not exploit them.

I think I prefer the term "meat puppet" to "meat proxy". Proxy implies some kind of authority or ownership of the information as it goes between the original commander and the machine. There aren't any proxies, it's puppets all the way down.

Yesterday I decided to add Chipmunk2D physics to Blockheads 2, and I can't stop imagining the marble runs, the handcar moves, the coconuts bouncing around! I mean think of it! I get to work on this stuff! 😁

I started playing the original Blockheads again as research for the port. Initially it was super fun, but now there is the weight of 100 things I want to improve weighing down the experience. It's good motivation to get BH2 playable, so I can get into that *playtest<->tweak* zone again, I love it!

I just ordered 2 kilos of fudge, and I intend to eat most of it. They are supposed to be for fundraising but I have no shame.

Fantastic! The tall fluffy things from the gardening magazine seed packet last year were all purple, but the self-seeded next generation are not! Love this shit.

It’s only “rogue bot incident” if it started in the OpenAI data center. Otherwise it’s just “sparkling malware”.

There was a baby bird just chirping at me through the window, so we had a conversation and I went and grabbed a worm. The bird came over looking real excited, but then wouldn't eat it and hopped off. I guess it likes some kind of other bugs, I'm not sure, my understanding of bird language is limited

what a privilege to be working on a game that so many people are excited for! I was asked a couple of days ago what my marketing plan is, and I answered ’release it’ and we both decided that was acceptable in this case.

My thoughts exactly. The only dangerous thing about AI is that the fools in power are using it to fuck things up faster.

Now the giant world multiplayer first person 3D cross platform crafting game, that might have been a touch ambitious! And there is a lot more work in that than Katipo, which really says something. We don't have to use HTML/CSS/react/js! We can build better tools!

Dave Frampton @majicdave.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I think some people assume I have bitten off more than I can chew with Katipo, that it is too big a job. But it really isn't, my whole point is that the problem is simple enough that it can be solved by one person. Our current solution is complex, but the problem is not, and I'm proving that.

I’m very excited for Blockheads 2, with its recent announcement the community has been reignited and I know I’m probably not the only one thinking the same thing but;

Are you actually Majic?

If AI actually worked, it would be used for optimization, and save billions of dollars in needless construction costs and power use by making software do more with less.
000
Dave Frampton @majicdave.bsky.social · 12/09/2026
One thing nobody ever talks about is the incredible inefficiency of software generally, and how much power this wastes. I’m not exaggerating when I say I believe every data center could use 1000x less electricity if software was better designed. Maybe a million times.

I’ve tried running my own self hosted community platforms, I’ve tried building communities on closed platforms. But I reckon the best thing will be to let communities build themselves wherever, and join all of them.

I watch the night sky for about 20 minutes most evenings while I vape weed, and I’ve noticed more and more pinprick flashes, less than half a second, like a stationary meteor. I guess it’s geostationary junk catching the sun? I swear it’s not the weed.

I'm convinced that the problem is mainly that marketers called LLMs 'artificial intelligence' which is clearly a lie, but our primitive monkey brains can't not believe that rocks are actually intelligent now, because look at the sign can't you read it says intelligence and didn't you see the matrix
