When people say "We used to drink raw milk from our own cow and it was fine," That's... usually not the case! In families w their own cow, the mom usually boiled it before using. We just forgot bc that's a boring chore that mom did. And who pays attention to that? youtu.be/vKDPast9WFk

China added 464 GW of solar in the last 12 months. The US? Just 50 GW. But here’s the kicker: China’s growth +62% alone (+178 GW vs same time last year) was over 3× the entire U.S. solar build in that time. The gap isn’t closing—it’s going supernova.☀️⚡🇨🇳 #EnergyTransition #SolarPower #Disruption #LFP

I'd just like to point out how weird it is that places with hundreds or even thousands of reporters — the NYT, WaPo, CBS, NBC, AP, etc. — are all getting pummeled on every major story by the dozen computerboys at Wired. To fumble the bag this consistently is, at some point, cowardice and a choice.

Female cinematographers are far and few between. Per the annual industry report the Cellulod Ceiling, female DPs shot just 12 percent of the 250 top-grossing movies in 2024. So, when a high-profile male director hires women it’s a big deal; when he keeps hiring women it’s a big fucking deal.

When Alexis de Tocqueville came to the US in the 1830s he noticed that the second he said anything even slightly critical of the US his interlocutor would suddenly get all mad and huffy because foreigners were only allowed to say nice things about America, or else.
Nothing is more embarrassing in the ordinary intercourse of life than this irritable patriotism of the Americans. A stranger may be very well inclined to praise many of the institutions of their country, but he begs permission to blame some of the peculiarities which he observes - a permission which is, however, inexorably refused. America is therefore a free country, in which, lest anybody should be hurt by your remarks, you are not allowed to speak freely of private individuals, or of the State, of the citizens or of the authorities, of public or of private undertakings, or, in short, of anything at all, except it be of the climate and the soil; and even then Americans will be found ready to defend either the one or the other, as if they had been contrived by the inhabitants of the country.
