TIL that at the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin has two taxidermied ocelots. One was done by a man who knew what an ocelot looked like. The other was done by a man who had never seen an ocelot in his life. I’ll let you figure out which is which.

Screencap reads, “As from the 20th century, taxidermists began to create preparations for museum visitors that were as similar as possible to the living animal. This required detailed knowledge of the anatomy and behaviour of the corresponding animals.
A great example for that are the two ocelot preparations on display. The taxidermist who prepared the lower ocelot had never seen a living ocelot in his life. He only had fur and some sketches of the animal at his disposal.
