On October 16 it’s National Anaesthesia Day where we celebrate all my colleagues. Being very committed I actually had an emergency LSCS on that date in 1993 at 3 am. My life and that of my son were saved that morning by my colleagues. Happy Birthday Nick. #NAD26

I may believe it never has happened to you even once Dr Watson It has also never happened to my male spouse. It is sad that even with all of my introductions and wearing a hat with my name and title on to reinforce this, that patients cannot believe a woman can be a doctor

I simply ignore it. Sometimes I correct them. If I got upset I would have a miserable life as it happens multiple times daily. I treat every patient with respect, every time.

The way I usually think about it is that in 16 yrs (13 in scrubs) I've never been called a nurse whereas every woman I've asked has been. I appreciate as senior, I'm actually quite junior but I think it's a good enough sample size. Only option I've got:
4 fake moustaches, 2 brown, 2 black

Most US hospitals now affix a large tag to the bottom of our hospital badges that says “Physician” or “Doctor.” And yet, my female physician colleagues are called “nurse” all the time. Sorry to hear Oz is the same.

No matter how many times I introduce myself to patients they do not see me as a doctor. And no matter how many times I explain to male colleagues they never understand why. I am nearly 63 years old and I am still being misidentified, every single day.
