In hindsight SRV was unfortunately too good and inspired a bunch of guys who didn’t have it like that to try it anyway

Hey Matt, if you can answer - if you added up the user counts for these, are more people playing “single player” games in aggregate than online multiplayer, and multiplayer is at the top because that sector is more consolidated to fewer titles? Or do they also have the raw # too

That does affect the analytical value but it doesn’t change the narrative value because it still tells you something about how the public sees the game, i.e. the narrative

Basic ass answer to a good bait prompt but the Dead going from baroque late 60s psychedelia to foundational half-acoustic roots rock with angelic harmonies is a canonical example Miles Davis did this, what, 5 times? 7? Herbie did it multiple times too, Coltrane as well, etc

also how I’ve felt getting into the Dead for the first time this year. Hey there’s 50 years of obsessive analysis of this stuff, they don’t need my input, I can just sit back and enjoy it

Phoenix is so sprawling that it limits what the light rail can be useful for, but it was very useful for getting from ASU campus or a couple spots near campus to downtown and the airport, which is about all a college student could need. My info is uh 15 years out of date though

Curious where Reeves would rank among Cure guitarists. I haven’t sat down and ranked em but I’ve really liked what he’s brought to their live shows.

That’s wild. Colorado it’s usually between 10,000’ and 11,000’, can usually use it as a marker to estimate peak heights reasonably well

(This is not a pure regionalism; all the east coasters defending the honor of the Appalachians by pointing to the White Mountains have intuited this rule because much of the White Mountains have tree-free, snowcapped summits like proper mountains)

maff @maff.bsky.social · 13/08/2026
Nothing against the Appalachians and Ozarks which are wonderful in their own ways I’m sure, but in my bones I do not consider you a mountain if you do not break treeline. If there are trees on top of you you are a hill, to me.

per last fm, the Cure have finally been dethroned as my most-listened artist. It’s an obviously incomplete data set (missing an easy 1000+ GD listens on Relisten, Play Dead, and CD) but pretty wild to see a lifetime of listening matched by an 8 month deep dive that is still in the relative shallows
Screenshot of last fm listening data, showing the Grateful Dead with 3,124 listens and the Cure with 3,106

this week I climbed El Diente and completed the traverse to Mt. Wilson, one of the four great traverses on Colorado 14ers. bucket list climb I’ve been eying for years, basically had the place to myself. lived up to all the hype, definitely a step up from any individual 14er. very intense, very cool.
