I've caught myself lately selectively editing my memories. Bursting out of the bar yelling for joy in 2016 when the Sounders won MLS cup? I was the happiest lady there. But...wait. I wasn't like that yet. Hm. Or, memories of childhood - I want to say, "when I was a girl," but that didn't happen

So in some ways I am 40, and in some ways I feel like I slowly emerged into existence over the last few years. And now my identity is solid again, no longer changing, and I'm just this new human with a hazy past. That's not to say I regret anything! But the feeling is uncanny.

I'm 40. A grown woman, mid-career, with a wife and kids and house. I have a long history behind me...*sort of*. Because that person four years ago is increasingly difficult to imagine. What did he do? What was he like? I relate to it all less and less.

My life entered a new phase in February when I had FFS, my last planned surgery. I was "done", and I really did feel whole, for the first time ever. The period since then has been really something to experience. Happy, but sort of uncanny too.

Queer romance in particular has been revelatory for me. There are many wonderful books in the genre that explore remarkable cross sections of the human condition. They've taught me a lot.

I love this, it mirrors my own thoughts on life closely too. It doesn't truly matter, or maybe it's the only thing that matters, and either way just don't worry about it and live your life with joy

This is so cool to read, it's right in line with my own philosophy too. Nothing could possibly matter on the grand scale, but on a tiny scale absolutely everything matters. So don't worry about it and spend your time with joy!

I have long based my world view on what is verifiable through the scientific method. There's a system, y'know? But since transition I've leaned into the witchy and mystical too. Why? Because it's fun, and because I was wrong about a lot anyway. So I guess the line is, "when it suits the bit."

I am the same way. I used to identify with them so much and about a year ago I realized that every one of them felt like work. I should have LOVED BG3 and I couldn't make myself play it. My eventual.conclusion: I shouldn't keep working jobs assigned to me by a previous version of myself.
