The noon-bell rings. A silence. Frodo speaks. ‘I will take the Ring, though I do not know the way.’ Elrond answers, ‘If you do not find a way, no one will. This is the hour of the Shire-folk, when they arise from their quiet fields to shake the towers and counsels of the Great.’

Having gotten sick 4 times within 2 months had the unintended effect of being back on social media. Any #bookrecommendations? Ι could go with something cozy/spooky/both.🍁🎃 #CozyGaming ideas welcome too. #CurrentlyReading "The Warm Hands of Ghosts" and I already have a feeling it will destroy me.

I had such a v i s c e r a l reaction to this. Can't believe that their argument used to be they're keep the Parthenon marbles to "protect them" because Greece "didn't have the infrustracture" or something, then refused to return them even after the Acropolis Museum, but this is somehow ok??

Author and filmmaker Justine Bateman on generative AI
"They're trying to convince people they can't do the things they've been doing easily for years - to write emails, to write a presentation. Your daughter wants you to make up a bedtime story about puppies - to write that for you." We will get to the point, she says with a grim laugh, "that you will essentially become just a skin bag of organs and bones, nothing else. You won't know anything and you will be told repeatedly that you can't do it, which is the opposite of what life has to offer. Capitulating all kinds of decisions like where to go on vacation, what to wear today, who to date, what to eat.
People are already doing this. You won't have to process grief, because you'll have uploaded photos and voice messages from your mother who just died, and then she can talk to you via AI video call every day. One of the ways it's going to destroy humans, long before there's a nuclear disaster, is going to be the emotional hollowing-out of people." - author and filmmaker Justine Bateman from a piece by Emine Saner for the Guardian

For a long time, I shied away from Ancient Greek retellings, partly because many authors had already written them. But Leto's story has always appealed to me and I've written a fierce, rage-filled story about her. You can read it at The Lorelei Signal: www.loreleisignal.com/dark-earths-...
Moodboard depicting; a statue of Leto with Artemis and Apollo as babies against a blue sky; a black wolf showing their teeth; a statue of Apollo against a blue sky; a hand stained red; a blue rectangle with the words "these days Leto is a wolf more often than not" in white letters: and oleaster tree; Delos island; a statue of Artemis against a dark green forest background; and a rocky shore of Delos island.

Can campus domains just block the ChatGPTs and the like? To prevent plagiarism? I know people would get around it, but I do wonder if we can make doing the work easier than faking it. I don't work in IT or on first amendment law. Block me, unfollow me, it's BlueSky I don't care.

Cassian Andor is flying a freighter through the eye of Aldahni, the shimmering fragments burning through the atmosphere in a deadly kaleidoscope. The caption reads " 'jail isn't real," i assure myself as i close my eyes andd ram the hallmark gift shop with my shitty bronco"

Cannot stop thinking about how Octavia Butler wrote a book in 1993 about climate change. It opens with deadly fires in LA in 2025. In the story, a fascist President has just won office with the campaign slogan "Make America Great Again." She was a modern day Nostradamus. If only we'd listened.

Katherine Mansfield died from TB #OTD in 1923, in a clinic outside Paris. She was 34. Three months earlier, she had written this in her journal: 'Warm, eager, living life – to be rooted in life – to learn, to desire to know, to feel, to think, to act. That is what I want.'

There is no such thing as an AI "artist." Art is expression. The choices you make as an artist inform that expression. A I churns out a result, but willfully removing your own choices in its fabrication removes the artist, you remove yourself. A flat result exists; you do not. It means nothing.
