Lansing’s getting all festive.
Three large stacked orange jack o’lantern ornaments in the middle of a downtown roundabout with Michigan’s state capitol in the distance and tall buildings on either side of the street.

Playing with flowers more than usual lately. 🌱
A small bouquet of herbs and flowers from my garden tucked in a Mason jar. It tipped over during my drive to work and soaked the ribbon, but it still looked ok. A tall bouquet of flowers from my yard, photographed in front of a green curtain and a bookcase. One of the dozens of bouquets my coworker and I made with mostly Costco bulk flowers and a few from my yard for our company picnic. A fall bouquet of mostly Costco flowers and a few from my yard.

Lansing/East Lansing delicacy. 🍜
A topopo salad at El Azteco. Giant heaping plate of chips, guac, chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, green onions, refried beans, cheese, peas, and probably more stuff I’m forgetting. It’s enough for about 5 meals. Water, salsa, and a margarita are in the background.

BAT!
A brown bat sleeping next to a window on a brick building. I’ve named it Laszlo. There are two more a bit farther away, but my phone is too old to render more than brown blobs.

Numerous studies, including from the FBI itself, show that invasive mass surveillance tech like Flock and Axon's automatic license plate readers don't help police fight crime. Surveillance is not safety.

Last night we had the grand unveiling of our new mural! Isn't it fantastic? The kids who painted it spent time in our space and designed the entire thing themselves. We love that they included the safety equipment! We think the ant may become our new mascot! 🐜

It breaks my heart to report that the olive burger I had today from the downtown Flint Halo Burger was not as good as the one I had on Saturday at Piazzano’s in Lansing. Seeing the Vernor’s mural was a small consolation.
A portion of a mural originally painted in 1932 by John Gonsowski and Keith Martin to advertise Vernor’s shows a winking gnome smoking a pipe while leaning out of a castle window. Trying to squeeze in lots of crafting today! Just cut back some lavender and threw together a quick and dirty wreath instead of composting it. I figured out about halfway in that it would have been a lot easier to add the lavender to an existing wreath. 🌱🧶

I’ve got pictures and a thread to follow, but I visited Sitdowners Memorial Park in Flint today to take some pictures, and I was struck (ha) by the central feature of the park being dedicated to women who were not members but contributed to organized labor in general.

It's absolutely infuriating that I can't even go to work without getting tracked on Flock cameras, but it feels extremely personal that these two are pointed exactly to monitor two of my siblings' homes and businesses and the Old Town festivals. @andyschor.bsky.social why and who decides this?

Four years ago, the Supreme Court stripped away a fundamental Constitutional amendment right and put abortion care out of reach for millions of Americans.

Today, we're sending a different message. With New York State, we are investing $495,000 to expand the NYC Abortion Access Hub, connecting more people to abortion care, medication, transportation, lodging and support services, no matter where they live.

Abortion is health care. Health care is a human right. We're protecting that right in New York City.
