I usually let my players outright succeed at things their characters are *meant* to be good at, because I thoroughly abhor the illusion of competency that's ingrained in many games. But being good at something isn't a free pass. It can get you through the door, but that's it.

I know the Dualsense is objectively a better controller than the DS4, but I'll only stop using my DS4 on PC when it breaks. I love this controller so much. It's one of two reasons why I don't fully regret buying a PS4 instead of an Xbox One way back when; the other reason is, of course, Bloodborne.

I know the BadWrongFun crowd loves to dunk on players whose preferred Vampire: The Masquerade playstyle is slice-of-unlife, but the Anarch V5 book has a great take on this, written in-character by one of the founders of the Anarch Free States. Personally, this playstyle ain't for me, but it's valid.

An excerpt from the Anarch V5 book (p. 38) that reads:

"The Simple Life

Many assume that I look down on Anarchs who don't fight the fight, but that would be furthest from the truth. In many ways, they are already living in the world we're trying to build. They are doing their thing, free from Camarilla interference. So many of the Anarch gangs you find all over the world are based on this simple lifestyle. You want to hang out with your friends. You help them and they help you. You hunt, perhaps operate a bar or a nightclub. You party, have fun, enjoy the perks of undeath. Nothing wrong with this! When problems arise, it's not these licks who make them."

The amount of choices a cRPG has and, by extension, its word count/replayability are often touted as the end-all-be-all for the genre. As I got older and busier, though, games with a hundred meaningless choices lost all novelty. I'd much rather have a handful of truly impactful choices instead.

Man, the aughts had a bunch of awesome genre shows that got cancelled way too soon. Jericho, Invasion, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Firefly Pushing Daisies, Moonlight, Blood Ties, Carnivàle... such an iconic decade for fans of genre TV, even if it didn't treat those shows all that well.

Of all the stuff people hate about V6, NPCs having less stats and not rolling as often (and only if the ST really wants to) is the one I truly don't get. Any time spent on making unnecessarily complex NPC sheets could be used to come up with *actually fun* stuff for your Chronicle. 1/

I've been thinking a lot about V6's alpha, and the conclusion I've reached is that its biggest flaw is not going all-in on the FITD mechanics. Yeah, that would upset a big chunk of the playerbase, but people are already upset anyway. This is a new edition. It needs to offer something new. 1/2

Not gonna lie, I didn't love the V6 playtest packet, but here's the thing: it's just an alpha! The V5 playtest packet was very different from the final product, for instance, so I think it's too early to panic. By all means, give lots of feedback, but there's no need for all the doom and gloom yet.

Some elements of V6's Alpha are surprisingly close to what I've been cooking for This Scarlet Thirst (and one other game I haven't discussed here). Vitae as Health Track and powers that get stronger the more you invest in a Discipline are things I've experimented with, so I'm eager to learn more!

Can't believe I never noticed that V5's Touchstones seem to be heavily inspired by IWTV. Louis spends his early years in the book obsessing over his favourite mortals (first his family, then the Frenieres), and Lestat watches over his elderly, ailing father. VtM is never beating the allegations.

Here's a weird pet peeve of mine: the PT-BR version of V5 didn't bother translating Anarch/Anarchs, and it was a stupidly easy term to adapt. The sect was previously called Anarquistas here (bit of a mouthful), but they could've translated it as Anarques for V5. Ball's in your court, Sixth Edition!

This is an excellent thread, and this part perfectly encapsulates one of the most insidious challenges in game design. So many games suffer from not picking a lane. By trying to be generic enough to support all kinds of playstyles, they often end up bereft of a well-supported core gameplay loop.
