Shame he's not going sooner. He presides over one of the most profitable universities in Scotland but ideologically driven to cut jobs despite surplus.

And it has pride of place on our wall with the real thing through the window - seen today in sunshine.
A framed painting of Beinn Alligin and Liathach in snow on a wall alongside a frame print of a frog and top of a lamp loosely based on Gandalf. Beinn Alligin and Liathach with the tip of Upper Loch Torridon and the Fuar Op in the foreground. A very blue sky above with clouds lurking.

To be fair, despite my father's Norfolk roots and his being born there, I have never aspired to Englishness or Britishness. Happy to be Scots in the embracing-all-who-live-here type of Scottishness including my immigrant husband.

There’s something very weird about this RAF terror case. I’ve reported on terrorism for 35 years and I’m struggling to recall a single case of a terror suspect being released on bail

It never stops

Robert Jenrick

The 5 RAF base terror suspects have been released on bail.

Meanwhile Danny Tommo has his bail denied.

It looks insane on the face of it. Are the police going to explain what's going on?

As a civil servant, I & colleagues were scrupulous in avoiding gifts or lavish hospitality (tea or sandwiches at meetings, hosting occasional reception or dinner or as part of an event but generally avoided drinking alcohol etc). Tbf, most Scottish ministers did the same. Pisses us off seeing this

l've been a SA advocate for decades:
NEVER go to campus resources for a SA. Call a rape care hotline/program (off campus), get a SA advocate (they're free), go to a SART hospital for care (and evidence collection if you choose).
They activate the police. Schools have NO business in this process and will minimize and bury it. It's a criminal matter, not an administrative matter.
Period. No exceptions.

In Denmark, it is illegal to leave homes empty for 180+ days a year. If you do, the authorities can force you to accept tenants provided by the local authority concerned, and dictate what rent you can charge. Denmark is not btw a communist state.

My father spent his last week in a hospice. It wasn't a nice week but I slept at night knowing he was well cared for & getting necessary pain relief. Many friends' parents were less fortunate; the awful stories of suffering at the end haunt them. A dignified pain-free end should be there for all.

I just watched The Guardian podcast where Marina Hyde is asked why she picked JK Rowling as her dream Prime Minister and she just dodges the question saying, “Oh, I don’t want to get into a whole thing.” Such a coward’s trick from someone who markets themselves as a straight talker.

I don't think we disdain the center-right enough. First, they rode nativist populist tigers to power to get their tax cuts and deregulation; Then, they lost control of their own parties to those tigers; Now, they sit in lucrative jobs as columnists writing about how it's all the left's fault.

This. To think otherwise is to condone wage theft & exploitation. No, the money doesn't need to come out of your also-tiny paycheque. The billionaire class spent decades robbing people, the planet, and infrastructure, buying politicians to order to re-write laws to normalize abuses like this.

Carney is assiduously courting the EU and seeking win-win outcomes; unlike UK politicians who are always seeking to extract or cherry pick from the EU without respecting the EU’s own needs and redlines. Too many in the UK still hope the EU will fail. The UK in its current politics can’t be trusted.
