A multi-ancestry genome-wide association study meta-analysis across 2,563,755 individuals presented in Nature Medicine identifies 26 risk loci for fibromyalgia, including HTT, and finds genetic correlations with chronic pain and psychiatric and somatic disorders. go.nature.com/4q860Yp 🧬🧪
This is figure 2, which shows the Manhattan plot of the primary meta-analysis.

So much for "sex, drugs, and rock n' roll". A new paper by Dr. Lydia Rader shows that adolescent music engagement is related to less alcohol use & substance use experimentation 5-11 years later through protective environmental factors. @lydiarader.bsky.social pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Adolescent Music Engagement is Associated with Less Alcohol Consumption and Substance Experimentation 5 to 11 Years Later: A Genetically Informative Study
Adolescence is a critical developmental window for shaping substance use trajectories. Music engagement during this period may reduce substance experimentation and later misuse through direct effects ...

New paper! 🎶🎸 • Do adolescents who engage in music use less substances later in development? • Are the links direct effects or due to shared genetic/environmental influences? • Is music constructive for youth at high genetic risk for substance use? Paper link: www.researchgate.net/publication/...

Uncovering the Role of Biological Sex in the Divergent Genetic Profiles of Early and Late-Diagnosed Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental disorder with a significant male prevalence bias. While recent evidence suggests that genetic heterogeneity is indexed by age at diagnosis, males...

There was a lot of laughter during this conversation and a few secret confessions... But we also had some great discussions about musicality, genetics, Beethoven and public outreach, mental health, and music genres... Thank you @rafaelahlskog.bsky.social and @aysuo.bsky.social for having me! 🎶
