My family ate in the restaurant ~23 years ago when it still rotated, and my brother managed to get himself trapped between one of the massive window pillars and the edge of our table. And yeah, the glass floor is terrifying as fuck. On a clear day you might be able to see the US to the south.

For some context in numbers - at his heaviest, Hobbes weighed between 14 and 15 pounds. Sometime last year, he was 7.5 pounds. He's back up to about 10-11. He makes the most ungodly smells happen in the litterbox, though.

Look at how much healthier he looks in that bottom photo! Hobbes is 16 now, which blows my mind, and he's been on treatment for his IBD for most of the last year. He's chonky* again!! *(he's a healthy weight and our vet is very pleased with his progress)

Met this handsome fellow when I stopped by our vet's office to pick up Hobbes' new meds. Yes, that is his full name.

A gorgeous young cat is gazing lazily at the viewer. He is an amber-ginger tabby with a lot of white on his belly, neck, face, and legs - he's almost half and half. His toe beans and his nose are the pinkest pink. He is lounging on a beige carpeted cat tree with a fake palm tree branch behind him and a sunlit window in the background.

The information sheet for our gorgeous cat friend. This is a blue half-sheet of paper on a clip board hanging from a tall enclosure (these enclosures are where the cats in foster spend their time when the clinic is closed).

The paper reads, "Hello! My name is Lego Starwars Luke Skywalker". It goes on to say that he has orange/white markings, came to them as a surrender (he was a stray), and lists his current food. There are six clipart images at the bottom that describe "Fun Facts About Me!"; three facts are checked off - "I'm litterbox trained" (shows a cat using a litterbox), "I'm mellow and laid back" (shows a hand making a "hang loose" gesture), and "I love toys" (shows a ball of yarn - don't give your cats yarn, folks!).

I finished filling in the orca the other day but last night I cut the warp for my first inkle loom project! (this is the cat-proofing from overnight storage, lol)

A rainbow of yarn is loosely draped over a column of horizontal pegs on a wooden inkle loom. The loose bundles of warp threads are tied to the back board of the loom with lengths of greener wool.
An inkle loom is a wooden structure sized to fit on a lap or desk and allow one to weave narrow bands that are very long. It has a base with a vertical back board that is offset to one side. Attached perpendicular to the back board are a series of wooden pegs that are arranged to allow you to loop your warp back and forth between them to increase its effective length within the short footprint of the loom itself.

We really need to reframe how we talk about cats, especially from a care perspective in the veterinary & rescue world. Behaviors that people tend to label a cat “mean” for displaying come from fear, stress, or instinct. When we have empathy for cats & remove our human feelings, we do better by them.

Just stitching an orca (on the matching piece of bit bag linen to the mini mandala I made you years ago) 💙💜

A piece of mottled purple and lavender linen, with blue streaks in the lavender and pinker streaks in the purple, is stretched in a rectangular lime green plastic stitching frame. There is a magnetic needle minder in the top left corner, shaped like a calico cat sitting in a patterned teacup. The linen fabric has a small grouping of dusky blue-purple stitches grouped in the center. A strand of floss in the same colour snakes from the stitches to the needle that is held on the needle minder.
