Brexit alone certainly didn't do for Starmer, but it's a major aggravating factor. If his position on the EU had been very different these last two years, he would not now be Googling removals firms. When it comes to prime ministers, Brexit's the closest thing to a guaranteed job-killer.

What Burnham and Streeting have done in splitting the Labour Party and causing infighting, all to further their own personal ambitions and careers means I will NEVER forgive either of them. I will never support either of them and will never personally vote for anyone who gives backing to either.

How could they not have understood the implications? They were QUITE LITERALLY putting a massive barrier in between them and their biggest customers. They did it because they believed French fishermen would be bankrupted. It was always about racism.

Farage argues that the mainstream media constantly distorts what he has to say. This is the guy who has built his brand on uncritical coverage in the Daily Mail, Daily Telegraph, Daily Express and - sadly - the BBC.

Condemning riots isn't enough. We need policy action, including an immediate appraisal of X as a vehicle for coordinating far-right disorder. And we need political leadership, to challenge white nationalism as an idea, not to validate it daily and then complain when it turns violent.

This is why the mainstream media is in such trouble all over the western world. This hypocrisy, deception and manipulation is repeated across the press and broadcasters in Europe and America - yet we ask why nobody trusts us anymore. To fix democracy we must fix the media. It’s a simple truth.

There could not be more obvious Russian asset than Farage. A regular on RTNews, admirer of Putin, co-architect of pro-Russian Brexit, & a rabble-rouser using racism to destabilise the UK. The media have propelled him into mainstream politics & must bear responsibility for the violence he engenders.

Typical Times doing its overbearing brexity parent act. Telling Reeves she can try to improve market access with the EU but nothing more. Because then we’d be “supplicants”. Ffs. The endless tedium of it. Get over yourselves. Look at our geopolitical insecurity and the actual numbers (Private Eye).
Closer EUlinks are sensible but proceed with caution

Extracts

Rachel Reeves’s Mais lecture in the City of London this week is expected to be a milestone in the gradual recalibration of Britain’s relationship with Europe. Almost a decade after the referendum, there is a sense that the bitter political warfare that polarised the country during the Brexit debate is fading. Businesses, particularly the smaller ones, are now much more focused on practical measures such as how to smooth trade.

Speaking to The Times, the chancellor said Brexit had adversely affected economic growth but “there’s an awful lot we can do to improve our trading relations.

Where that requires alignment in our national interest, we should absolutely align.” Her central point is difficult to dispute.

It surely makes sense for Britain to pursue more bilateral arrangements with the EU where they improve access to the single market. On that front, closer ties with our neighbour and largest trading partner seem both sensible and overdue.
….

Equally, Britain should not sell itself short during negotiations. Only yesterday a new possible demand emerged over university tuition fees. These must be treated on merit. In addition the chancellor must not allow the many committed Europhiles in her party to see these limited steps as a staging post on the way to rejoining the customs union. Handing back control of Britain’s trade policy to Brussels would be a retrograde step. The UK would have to align with EU trade rules and unpick some agreements already struck with other countries. It would once again become a supplicant, dependent on the consent of 27 states.

Indeed some believe those who support rejoining the customs union see the trade deals as a way back to full membership.

That ship has sailed. But the chancellor should keep asking the question on market access.
