Boatman - the second 50 contains another 50 puzzles from The Guardian, with five bonus puzzles previously only available online and including puzzles, solutions and the ideas and stories behind them, exemplified by this image of the book opened to show one of the stories, which is accompanied by a picture of a large cow.

Reviewing Boatman - the second 50, Gyles Brandreth says: "If you want a fiendish crossword, you want the best - which means you want Boatman, because he is the best" and Brian Bilston: "Cracking crosswords - each puzzle a delightful daily workout for the brain and a welcome tonic for the soul".

Yesterday was a very lovely day for November, so I took a walk outside. While out, I came up with the theme, the starting lines, and one or two of the later lines for this poem, and had to stop and jot them down. I present the final product: Fallen Leaves. #poetry

Fallen Leaves

Scattered all across the countryside in shades of brown and red,
with their loving families wishing that they could have gone instead–
All the boldest and the brightest out in empty fields lie
far from home with no returning, and their tomb the empty sky.
Some led by misguided duty, others simply forced to go,
but the battle makes no difference what the fallen soldier chose,
and the casualties are rising, as the many colors fall—
all these leaves are falling, falling, and the trees don't care at all.

They were not the ones to start the war, but they must carry on
Fighting for their homes and lives before their time is quickly gone.
No reprieve for them when wounded, for no hospital's secure;
but their deaths are counted nothing, for the war must still endure.
Torn by wind and wild weather from the places they were grown,
sent uncaring by these marshals to a land they'd never known
where they fly and fight and fall, with all their colors tattered bare
And their struggle matters nothing, for the trees don't even care.

Understanding is much easier because for me, learning a language from a country I am far from visiting, finding people to speak it with is difficult. Doubly so because I am too shy to start in on it if I do find someone…so I read and listen to plenty of material but never write and speak.

This betta fish from December 2023 was a lot of fun. All the tiny lines that make up the fins and tail were so satisfying, evoking the joy of just doodling. Each color in the fins is a different layer, and each fin itself is a different group of layers. #krita #art #digitalart

First art post! (Finally.) This is one of the first digital art projects I did, about 2 years ago, and it's still one of my favorites. I use it as a profile picture in a lot of places, and I think it actually sparked the way dragonflies have become my Thing(tm). #krita #digitalart

You can probably search for your desired terms and find posts mentioning the topics. For me, they show up in my Discover feed as people with my niche interests repost packs of their own niche interests I also recommend not just hitting the “Follow All” button, but looking through the list first.

I just joined bsky today, and this post appeared on my discover page. I went and looked up your book on my online library app, and an hour and a half later, I've read the whole thing.
