I only wish Trump was in the pockets of Wall Street as much as some Democrats say he is; then, he’d have listened to them and avoided this disaster!

Jared Golden supporting a massive tax hike that will disproportionately harm his constituents. Unbelievable.

Doing something solely because it is prohibited abdicates control over and responsibility for one’s own actions and decisions every bit as much as doing something solely because it is mandated does.

The take I am most certain of that gets me in the most trouble is just "The reason homes are so expensive is because there are not enough of them, so we really really really need to build more of them."

congestion pricing is a policy miracle
But Ilena Robbins, 37, believes congestion pricing has already been transformative.
It is not hyperbole to say that crossing Canal Street, a notoriously clogged east-west thoroughfare with four - and in some places six - lanes, used to make her fear for her life.
Ms. Robbins, who grew up in Manhattan but now lives in Queens, compared navigating the intersection where she works, at Canal and Lafayette Streets, to a game of Frogger - at least in the old days.
"It would stress me out just getting lunch, she said. Thursday was her first day there post-congestion pricing. "I couldn't believe it," she said. "I was able to cross safely, and cars weren't honking. It was like a whole other world."

Ratio me away to Valhalla, but practically the entire developed world is experiencing a right-wing surge as progressives lose ground in country after country, in large part because of a unique global inflation crisis that many traditional economists, including the pictured Jason Furman, saw coming.

where does the new york times even find these people
A screenshot of a New York Times update that says: In Grand Central Terminal, Leon Chang, 26, of Brooklyn, said he had not heard of congestion pricing and asked what it was. When explained it was a toll for cars entering Manhattan, he then asked “What do you mean? What is a car?” Walking outside, we showed him a vehicle parked on the street. He gently touched the hood of the car. “You wish to forbid these majestic beasts from entering the city,” he said in a wistful tone. “It is a folly of man. The desire to tame the world around us.”

Trump opposes using existing technology & automation to more quickly & efficiently process the goods entering & leaving our ports ... because the waste, inefficiency, cost overruns, and delays will require more jobs. The short-sighted economic illteracy knows no bounds.

A big reason for the Weimar Republic’s fall was that the Empire was seen as a land of kings and knights, while the Republic was a land of bureaucrats and career politicians. To survive, liberal democracy needs heroes.

New York City's outdoor dining saga is a cautionary tale for what happens when cities prioritize bureaucratic control over innovation. What began as a creative, organic solution to an economic and social problem has been stifled by overregulation.

There is absolutely no way my tariffs video would already have nearly 75,000 views if not for Donald Trump wanting to raise tariffs. Tariffs are boring to most folks. The curiosity to learn about them was just not there before. I wish they were curious sooner. Now it's too late.

NYC’s housing is so expensive because we don’t build nearly enough of it. Tokyo and Jersey City are building far more housing per capita than we are. Whether it’s our local or global competition, we're falling far short. It’s time to Rebuild NYC. zellnor.nyc/rebuildnyc

The South Korean president was elected because society failed to address an epidemic of misogyny, and he’s now attempting a coup. If young, right-leaning men have nowhere to go but incel echo chambers, this is what happens.

I'd love to see how in the world any budget analyst can produce any figures showing a balanced budget from tariffs. The crimes that must be committed against economics, logic, and basic math will be astounding.

Few people even know about this; when people are asked in surveys how child mortality has changed the majority says it has stagnated or increased. If you consider that many don't know about humanity's biggest achievement, then it's not surprising that many are so pessimistic about our future.

A very unfortunate part of American history is that the slavers and segregationists were generally correct about a major issue that often drew party lines: the tariff.

A lot of people are missing that Harris’s campaign was hitting pretty much all the right notes, it just needed to have been doing that for the last ten years. You can’t change the reputation of a politician and party in just a few months.

incredibly stupid side project I think would be fun is to "name" all 435 congressional districts the way the UK names parliamentary constituencies. Yes it is more efficient to say "NV-03" but it would be more fun to me to say "Southwest Vegas"

Today, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez proposed a new task for to look at electoral reforms which could break up the two party system in Congress, expand the number of House districts, and move the House to a form of proportional representation. It's a very, very good idea.

a pic of tweets. Elon says "good move", quote tweeting a post from Mario Nawfal, who says "MILEI IS SLASHING IMPORT TAXES. In a push to open Argentina's economy, JMilei is cutting import taxes to give consumers access to more affordable goods"

Very cool that all the neo-brandeisians, including Lina Khan now, have decided that it's appropriate to ignore Gaetz's conduct if it means Khan could stay at the FTC. If Khan had any principles, she would refuse any offer from the Trump admin, but it's clear she doesn't.

one of the dumbest things I see re: Trump's universal tariff plans is when people like Oren Cass say that we need a universal tariff "so that the free market can decide what is optimal to re-shore" and, like, not only does that not make sense as policy that's just not what free market means man
