After playing two other routes (Theodora and Cai), my verdict on part 1 troupes for FW is that Dietrich’s group is easily the best and most entertaining and it’s not particularly close. I doubt Leda will make a dent in this from what I can see from the characters.

I’ve been in a Fire Emblem Fortune‘s Weave hole for a bit and while I am very annoyed at the way the downtime has exploded since 3H, I think it‘s improving on a lot of 3H’s weak points enough that I think I am enjoying my time a lot more.

I was playing Castle of Illusion for the Genesis with my kid and we beat the game today, and the credits being anonymized prompted me to look it up on Mobygames and I found one of the most fascinating careers I can think of from the designer of the game, Emiko Yamamoto:

did a savestate run of arcade Gradius (one at the start of every level and maybe one before some tough part mid-level) and this 1-all seems pretty doable tbh... stage 3 with the moai heads is definitely the toughest part of the run. the final stage can get hairy but it seems totally doable

Arcade game design & its relationship to monetization is an interesting topic because... people tend to flatten it a lot in both directions. Both "quarter munching" games and tightly designed and tuned games meant to provide an extended but satisfying challenge both existed.
