Yes 100%!! There's definitely this and maybe a bit of not accepting that people can become disabled at any time, and sometimes also I think because of stigma around mental health and the word 'disabled' (particularly from male fans) there's a resistance to acknowledging those things DO affect you

Most recently the companions in Baldur's Gate, I often find people can recognise Gale and maybe Karlach and Wyll, but not Astarion and Shadowheart also Also really enjoyed Still Wakes the Deep in general, but loved Roy! He explicitly has diabetes but again not sure some would go ah yes disability

Yes exactly!! I think Frodo isn't magically cured/rid of his wounds and such either in Valinor so I get the feeling it's definitely along the lines of some form of veteran hospital like you say, or nice elven palliative care before he does pass away. And love that read of the Tooks too 😭

And when I point this out or just say 'Frodo is disabled and very clearly so' that type of fan start complaining either no I'm wrong because he's 'normal', or they ask HOW he's disabled because he couldn't possibly be and then go silent when I explain, or go 'ah so not real disability then' 😂

And I never see anyone complain that Frodo is 'shoehorned in' or woke, so I use him to explain people 1. Forget disabled people are still people, so of course we're relatable and just regular guys at times and/or 2. Disability looks many different ways, so people don't realise they're disabled

Essentially I like to use Frodo as an example of a disabled character that people already love, in discussions when people say disabled people aren't realistic in fantasy or games. He has PTSD, loses a finger and his wounds from shelob + morgul blade hurt more and he falls ill on their anniversary
