Micheál Martin says he's "leaning towards" banning e-scooters because of rising injuries and the misuse of e-scooters and scramblers by criminal gangs. But those are two completely different problems. One is public health. The other is criminality.

(2) 50 Years Ago [two people between smaller car and bigger car] PERSON 2 with short hair: Small cars are less safe in collisions with larger vehicles, so I should get a bigger one. Absolutely. It's great it didn't get into the narrative. The public one anyway. I think the Mary's had that debate angle already destroyed

I can't help wondering what proportion of the spoils/ Gavin votes were just men wanting to have a man to vote for? Is that what they mean when they said there was no one there to represent them? #Áras2025

From a research interview.... "Somebody said to me, road engineers...if they were to build a house, it would be all corridors." It's a good line, and also probably quite relevant to what we currently prioritise in developing environments to support walking & cycling in urban areas.

This great video also reminded me of an interesting facet of motonormativity: people can lose 100 hours a year in traffic and never notice; but they have one late train and it's all "Never again - you can't rely on them"

A mobile bicycle-trailer pop-up library ... with hammocks. Genius.
A group of people are lounging in colorful hammocks arranged around a central structure that holds books. They are engaged in reading while sitting in a public space. The setting appears to be a lively urban environment.A yellow tricycle with a large blue cart in the shape of a small building structure is parked on a cobblestone street. Trees provide shade in the background, and a café can be seen with patrons seated

After I got my driver's license, the bike was dead to me. Fast forward a few decades, add a few trips to the Netherlands, and I returned to two wheels for my physical and mental health. Bikes don’t fix everything, but active transportation is a medicine that pays dividends in multiple ways.

1km from school & our kids regularly walk solo. Have done since about 6/7yo. Residential area with just 1 road to cross which unfortunately is a rat run. But with lots of others walking along the way I think it's really good for them. Road type context & others walking would be important to consider

Geraldine Herbert: Cutting speed limits and changing our car-centric culture isn’t about restricting freedom – it’s about creating it
Could a city with a similar population to Galway ever reduce road deaths to zero in a single year? It sounds unfeasible, but it can be done.

Schemes will allow older visitors to rest and use toilets in participating city premises
Plans will progress early next year

Good public transport is one of the greatest social equity measures there is. Jeopardising or delaying it further embeds car dependency, social isolation, and poverty traps.
