I don't know if I'm tipping into conspiratorial thinking here, but it seems likely to me that the latest spike in AI doomerism is a play to get open source models regulated out of existence to eliminate some of that competition.

Cynically, this is exactly why they don't do it that way. Too many businesses make too much money by having a labor force of trafficked people who have no legal recourse. I hope they lose hard enough that their system gets broken down but it's so entrenched and has been going on so long.

Oh, right. Of course, it's obviously women's fault that men don't call out other men for what they do to women. The dems do suck, as an organization, though there are some good individuals in it. Unfortunately voting for them is still the best option. Letting them off the hook for being bad on this or that issue isn't the best way forward either.

They never think the leopard is coming for *them*. Some of them might want to google Ernst Rohm, if they think they're too close to power for it to happen to them. (Though ironically I think the loss that's coming in the midterms will save them from their own party, for now at least).

I think you're right. And maybe I'm being too optimistic or just don't understand how the studio system works, but the whole Paramount monopoly "we're gonna move Hollywood out of Hollywood" seems like trying to use money to buy the culture and I don't think doing it that directly will work out.

Describing it as being "against the LLM craze" rather than "Anti-AI" is also really accurate. The conflation of LLMs with all machine learning by AI boosters to try and "win" the argument (by acting like criticizing chatbots is the same as being against ML for medical research) is so deceptive.
