This. 👇👇👇 JB Pritzker: "Any rational person who has spent even the most minimal amount of time studying human history has to ask themselves one important question: Once they get the citizens of this nation comfortable with the current atrocities committed under the color of law, what comes next?”

Well, they tried flanking him, but it’s unclear in which direction. By the numbers, Biden is the most pro-immigration President since the Ellis Island era, but then in his last year the admin did a hard pivot and tried to sprinkle in a few “secure the border” ads 🤔 www.nytimes.com/2024/12/11/b...

There’s the related trend where people then become skeptical of medicine that’s free…almost suspiciously free, like Covid vaccines. “Oh, the government just wants to make sure everyone is healthy” “🤨oh really?🤨since when?🤨”

There was a brief moment in the early ‘10s where it seemed like things were always going to keep getting better. Can’t pin it down precisely. Frankly, now the “before times” just feels like a hallucination. But whatever optimism we had simply lulled us into letting our guard down.

Not to defend their policies but their far-right party has bucked the continental trend and lost electoral strength. I don’t know if it’s total vindication of their center-left’s strategy, but it is a noteworthy counterpoint www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/d...

I think in the UK context there’s a particular panic right now about “the boats” — irregular immigration which is not subject to the NHS surcharge. This current wave of hysteria about asylum seekers is far stronger than the generic backlash to immigration which has receded from its peak.

President Truman was woke in 1947, you heard it here first
"We won World War I, we won World War II, we won everything before that and in between, and then we decided to go woke, and we changed the name to DOD. So, we're going Department of War," Trump said at an Oval Office press conference on Friday announcing the move.

In this context it is made up. Democrats “codified” gay marriage in 2022, but it can still be overturned by the Supreme Court. Just like they overturned the Defense of Marriage act in 2015 when they legalized gay marriage. SCOTUS can strike down laws passed by Congress, that’s its job.

lolitics.bsky.social @lolitics.bsky.social · 30/08/2025
“Codification” isn’t a real thing, it’s cope invented by those who want to justify not taking notice in 2016 when 3 SCOTUS seats were up for grabs. Supreme Court rulings take precedence over Congress. If they deem it to be a matter for the states, nothing to be done but take control of the Court.

“Over the past 20 years, Paris has undergone a major physical transformation, trading automotive arteries for bike lanes, adding green spaces and eliminating 50,000 parking spaces. Part of the payoff has been invisible — in the air itself.” Leadership, strategy, real action, common sense. #Paris

Paris said au revoir to cars. Air pollution maps reveal a dramatic change.
Air pollution fell substantially as the city restricted car traffic and made way for parks and bike lanes.

The D.C. National Guard has spread a lot of mulch - over 380 cubic tons - and picked up trash in Washington, D.C., amid the Trump administration's push to combat crime in the capital.
Troops are mostly staying in hotels and have access to hot meals around the clock, officials said. The administration said it's not tallying the cost of all this yet and has no idea how much it will cost the federal government. https://abcnews.visitlink.me/ODUt_e

Hard to convince younger generations, but for decades, Republicans went on and on about how two of the worst things imaginable were (1) state intervention in the market and (2) DC using federal troops against US states; both so bad the people should be ready for armed rebellion in case it happens.

Such a good point on SCOTUS hypocrisy when it comes to Trump vs Biden: They let a nationwide injunction kill Biden’s student loan relief when they had a chance to rule on it. 5 months into Trump’s presidency, suddenly nationwide injunctions are a grave threat to executive power and they must rule.

what’s funny is that if pro-cuomo centrist democrats were less myopic they might see that mamdani was running the kind of campaign that could help rebuild the party brand — accessible with an outsider persona and a focus on “kitchen table” issues.

I mean, there’s still a shocking number of Cuomo voters, they really exist and they gave views to the camera. If you look at the weekly polls, Mamdani was gaining strength fast by the end of the campaign but at early on a Cuomo victory looked likely. A good campaign can change things fast.
