Reposting with alt text Platner has formally withdrawn from the Senate race in Maine with a letter to the SOS where he does not acknowledge the SA accusations made against him
July 10, 2026

Maine Department of the Secretary of State
Division of Elections
101 State House Station
Augusta, Maine 04333

Re: Withdrawal of Candidacy - US Senate

To Whom It May Concern,

I write to formally withdraw my candidacy for United States Senate.

On June 9th, 156,084 Mainers voted for a new kind of politics. One that is
representative of people down here in the real world - not billionaires,
oligarchs, or the political establishment. Mainers voted for Medicare for
All; to ban billionaires from buying elections; and for an end to taxpayer-
funded genocide and forever wars. They voted for time and dignity; for
strong unions and jobs they can raise families on; for the hope of buying
a home; for the chance to retire with grace.

People are desperate for change. For this broken system to be righted. For
the American experiment to be furthered. Over the past eleven months,
thousands and thousands of Mainers poured their hearts, time, and talent
into a movement to deliver that vision. I will be forever grateful to them.
And in submitting this letter today, I seek to further the movement we
have built together and the future we believe in.

My name may have been on the ballot, but that ballot line belongs to
the people of Maine. As such, please consider this notice as my official
withdrawal from consideration for this office.

F*ck ICE. Free Palestine. Up the Hearts.

Solidarity forever,

GRAHAM PLATN

In everything I've written on Platner, I've emphasised this aspect of him because his loudest defenders across the left-of-centre spectrum kept going on about how he was redeeming himself and how we all needed to forgive, etc. But he has never been contrite or gracious about any of this. Not once.

The allegations against Graham Platner are deeply disturbing. Mainers deserve a Democratic candidate who can serve the people of their state, which is why it’s time for him to end his campaign. Maine Democrats should select a new nominee for U.S. Senate who can beat Susan Collins in November.

John Thune, Republican, is Senate Majority Leader. Mike Johnson, Republican, is Speaker of the House. They’re in the party that controls the majority. They’re in the party that pushed for the specific judges that yet again made some harmful rulings while barely salvaging others. This isn’t hard.

SCOTUS reform won't just simply happen if Dems take Congress & the White House. A case has to be made for it—to a skeptical public, to reluctant politicians, to a hostile media. The blowback from the right will be intense and terrify a lot of weak-willed pols. The case has to be made starting *now*

I can say (with some experience) that every media outlet has pre-writes ready for major #SCOTUS news—rulings; retirements; deaths. The *existence* of an Alito retirement story isn't proof of anything other than due diligence, one way or the other (up until it accidentally got published, anyway).

The logic should not be that this will fix all our problems, it should be that a deeply unconscionable thing is happening so we need to help better it using any means available to us. If/when something else bad happens years down the line, we'll fix that using any means available too.
