Adding chia or flaxseed plus yoghurt are good for boosting the fibre and protein. I need to get back in habit for my early starts with commuting.

As scientists increasingly use AI to do research, what can they do to counter the generally uncritical approach of the models?
As shortcomings of the agents become apparent, researchers are proposing strategies to help them improve their outputs

I hated the texture of yoghurt for a long time so giving myself gold stars to managing to get this decent breakfast in my routine.

Variations on yoghurt (dairy free for me) with oats, fruit and chia or flaxseed. This week it’s been yoghurt with low sugar high protein granola at my desk when I get to the office instead of my usual croissant habit on office days

I love crunching on things. A therapist suggested getting some chewable fidgets if dopamine eating was becoming an unmanageable problem. Upping the protein at breakfast is helping with morning snack attacks too.

A selection of interesting drinks is sometimes also works for me. Good job I like herbal teas because the possibilities are seemingly endless to keep things interesting

Not always low calorie and nutrient dense (plus satisfying calories important too!) but some of my current snacks. Things that aren’t quick to eat, have sensory interest through crunch e.g. sugar snap peas, bread stick/mini crackers, popcorn. Protein from babybels, tofu/quorn/chicken. Yoghurt.

Grazing is my attention deficit dopamine seeking activity. I try to keep lots of lower calorie and nutrient dense snacks available instead. Interesting drinks. Distractions with something else fun. Was helpful to realise snacks are not actually about food for me.

A useful quick summary of the revised ACRL framework! Some changes are subtle but important. I particularly like the change in wording from "the information need may help determine the *level* of authority required" to "the *form* of authority required". Authority is contextual, not hierarchical!

Didn’t you know that AI can find all those for you? Apparently it will even select the correct rabbit holes to fall down so you don’t waste time expanding your thinking and knowledge 🙄

This is how I feel about people who think literature reviews aren’t important so can be outsourced to AI. Particularly in the PhD world! Learning to search for literature is still an important skill.

Work is ongoing to get University of Edinburgh to #StopTheCuts, save staff and programmes and get all the contributions and services the good workers of Edinburgh University make to their own institution and far beyond, back up and running. Until then, support the strikes ✊🏻

Huddersfield station has reopened so I’m doing the normal commute for the first time since starting new job. Need all the good luck this week for finding a house so my commute can be a 15 min down hill walk.

Turns out my supervisor was correct in predicting that trying to sell / buy a house would be a huge thesis distraction. I wrote about 10 words today but planned a bathroom layout.

Two weeks done in my new job. I love it. Might be too early to say that I’m going to be really good at teaching librarianship but I feel really happy about the first 2 weeks. Celebrating with the plant burger at Honest and wine.

Google has chats but it’s a much less distracting online workspace. I am also free from having to remember whether documents are on the original Sharepoint or the Teams Sharepoint.

It’s been less than two weeks since I moved to a job without Microsoft Teams. Initial reflection is my brain feels calmer without multiple chats and channels sending notifications all day. Anxiety levels are dropping now that Teams no longer needs constant monitoring for urgent work tasks.

Looking forward to the commute to Sheffield returning to normal next week. Huddersfield station is closed so today I did 30 mins on the regular bus, 15 min walk to a station, 25 min wait for train. I’m on a painfully slow train. I’ll eventually get to the office over 3 hours after setting off.

Yoga class this morning was on the theme of pause which was perfect after a busy September. This last week has been full on. First week of new university teaching job during welcome week. Hotel hopping around Sheffield. House hunting and big decisions. At least 20k steps a day in my heavy boots.

I’ve been on the edge of a migraine and fibromyalgia type pain attack all day. Even my fingers are aching. It’s been a two diet cokes and a doughnut type day to survive. But I’ve dragged my to yoga and hoping it helps shake something out of me.
