🎶New display: Dover Choral Union 🎶 In 1913, Harry James Taylor, the first conductor of #Dover Choral Union, was presented with a "coming of age" souvenir book filled with concert programmes to celebrate his 21st year in that role.
A black-and-white ink illustration serving as a program cover from 1904 drawing from the Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts design.
The central figure is a musician wearing long, flowing robes that drape down to her feet. She is playing a double horn instrument. She is framed by roses, thorny vines, and leaves.
There are two stylized, unfurling banners rest within the rose canopy above the female. The left banner reads "TRIENNIAL" and the right banner reads "MUSICAL FESTIVAL." At the very top, set inside a separate horizontal scroll border, the word "DOVER" is written in large, heavy, stylized block lettering. Either side of the central figure are the words "PROGRAMME" (on the left) and "4th MAY 1904" (on the right) written down the sides in an angled script. At the bottom of the vines is the monogram A.J.D 1904.

Happy 317th birthday Dr Samuel Johnson!
An ink illustration of an older Dr Samuel Johnson holding a manuscript of his dictionary which he is editing with a white feather quill pen. He has coiled white hair and is wearing a deep purple coat. He is stood in front of the window of his house. The top of his cane can be seen in the background.

What better place than a museum to showcase beards on #WorldBeardDay. This neatly sculpted beard and gloriously styled moustache belongs to William Brooke, tenth Baron Cobham (1527-1597), a nobleman, diplomat, and most notably Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports and Constable of #Dover Castle.
The image is a portrait William Brooke, 10th Baron Cobham. He is facing slightly to his left while looking directly at the viewer. He has a trimmed brown beard, and a long slightly upward styled moustache. He is largely wearing black including, a flat black velvet hat and cloak, a large white pleated collar of the Order of the Garter around the neck, and a gold medallion on a thick blue ribbon. He is holding a golden coloured staff of office as Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports. In the right corner of the painting is a heraldic coat of arms.
