Mid September to mid November is my busiest time at my job. It is heavily laden with many presentations that really drain my battery. So, of course, I'm adding to that drain with weekly volunteering for @jleiper.bsky.social and @kanatasouth.bsky.social (aka Erin Coffin).

Having worked as a volunteer on some campaigns over the years, it’s quite discouraging to get more of the same - austerity budgets continue to fail residents. And don’t get me started on the embarrassment of this being the capital of a G7 nation…

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we acknowledge and reflect on the deep intergenerational harm residential schools have caused to Indigenous families and communities. Art by Elaine Landry #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters #TruthAndReconciliation

A handprint on an orange background. The handprint is broken into segments, inside of which are different symbols representing elements of Indigenous culture, including animal paw prints, landscapes with trees, and other images drawn from nature. There is a large black eagle feather on the left side of the handprint, and bird silhouettes appear in the upper left hand corner of the image. The words EVERY CHILD MATTERS appear at the bottom of the piece.

Paying taxes to maintain public services is many times cheaper than having to pay for our needs privately. What Sutcliffe is selling is a false promise.

Now if only we could elect enough people in Ottawa to make this happen. I think Right Wing politicians like the excuse the homeless provide to justify hiring more police.

For anyone who relies on a salary instead of investments to live.... This is a huge issue that could impact you. The creep of fascism always starts by chipping away at the rights of workers in favour of corporate profits.

In Kanata South, I have seen two lawn signs for Allan Hubley. One was paired with Sutcliffe. The other was paired with Lawson. This possibly says something about all three candidates.

Prime Minister is promising new legislation to ‘Build Canada Strong’. It seems amending the Canada Labour Code is part of the plan, but strengthening workers rights isn’t what he’s talking about. The real Carney wants foreign investment above all and is prepared to sacrifice labour rights to get it.

My sunflowers have had a fabulous year. The bees are loving it also.

Several sunflower blooms at different stages. The freshest one has petals that are dark red with the brown seed area showing lots of pollen. The oldest bloom has a more faded red section and the seed area it starting to look pretty fat.

This single sunflower bloom has solid gold colored petals. Another flower bud is also visible.

This bloom has lemon yellow petals and features a big fat bee at work.

This sunflower is viewed from the back and shows pale petals with red streaks.

My usual bean and tomato picking bowl needs an upgrade. Also, the mosquito bite tax is a bit steep.

A plastic bowl, full to overflowing with beans and tomatoes. Although it is half full of beans, there are so many tomatoes, that only a few beans are visible.
