For Helen's #birdoftheday alt theme #buntingbirds - here's an awful resolution picture taken through our window. But I love it because this is a male fledgling from the family of lazuli buntings that grew up in our hedge this year. So fun watching his markings emerge as he grew up.
Blurry zoomed in photo of an immature male lazuli bunting on the ground. His colorful breast band is just starting to grow in, and the blue on his head is still muted and patchy. He's unspeakably cute in person but is shy and hard to catch on camera.

I snapped this shot of a godwit stretching her wings right before it started absolutely lashing, and with the #Simple background of low tide, this shot fits for today's #BirdOfTheDay. (The Alt theme is #Paridae.)
A godwit stretches her wings at low tide as she forages for crabs or clams with her long, thin beak that is pink with a black, slightly upturned tip. She sports the pale orange breeding season coloring on her throat and breast, that fades to tan and then white near her legs. Her legs are thin, long and darkly colored while her feet have sunk into the mud. On the underside of her wings, white feathers are visible. The tops of her wings are slightly visible, showing black along the edges and a pattern of white, tan and black further in. Her rump is white while her tail feathers end in black.
