On the BBC I argued for gender integration, but I dunno. Seems like putting women directly into a dangerous environment and it doesn't interrupt the equally gross race, class dynamics. I'm leaning toward the collective action solution. Students already have the power! Spread the word!

Bans are tricky because: 1. Americans have the right to freedom of association. 2. We risk also banning non-toxic entities on campus that also call themselves "fraternities," like co-ed philanthropic orgs and multicultural frats. 3. Frats that are banned do sometimes go underground, which is worse.

2. If the non-affiliated men on campus collectively organized, agreeing not to pledge a dangerous fraternity, it would collapse. 3. If the men in dangerous fraternities collectively organized, agreeing to disaffiliate en masse, it would collapse. Why not just ban them?

I botched an answer about the "frat problem" on BBC last night. Here's what I wish I'd said: I think students on campuses with dangerous fraternities should take the matter into their own hands. 1. If women collectively organized, permanently boycotting a dangerous fraternity, it would collapse...

I keep thinking about this. If the lesson we learned from #metoo is nobody cares, no amount of good data, accurate language, thoughtful education, or legal reform will help. We're going to have to defeat them.

Also, if I may add, since the 1930s or so the "frat boy" has been America's classic collegiate and the "frat party" its iconic college party. Many campuses are, just generally, fratty, whether there are frats there or not.

This is crap for two reasons. 1: polls show, clear majorities of all parties support expanding childcare access 2: if parents are wary of childcare, it's because Reps spent four decades vilifying employed moms, stoking false fears of daycare, and underfunding programs in ways that limit care quality
