The realisation of this horrified me. I spam my son all the time with links to the things I don't think his algo will show him as a corrective but it still feels like a drop in the ocean.

I remember this happening in UK with the Sarah Everard case. My female students knew ALL about it - male students had to be told who she was. I had no clue before then that the men/women in my classes simply see different news from each other. Why are the men not seeing male violence?

A man (50s?) with an indignant air is saying to his partner: "That's the problem with politicians. They never do what they say they're gonna do! It's all promises and no bloody action!" His partner takes a measured bite of her bagel and says: "Just like you and tidying the shed eh?"

Also, David's 'Unstructured Time' theory is very compelling. I reckon in due course it will be recognised as a major explanation for the causes of crime.

Such a great point by Prof Tyler: a good way to enact change is to align with institutional (e.g., police, customs, etc) interests. Maximise job satisfaction + efficacy. "Find ways to change that do not impose a high cost on the status quo" #ARCJC2026
Prof Tyler's slide saying institutions often resist change (especially that which comes from research) so aligning with your institutional partner's interests help to diminish that resistance.
