Dr Tina Murphy: can procedural justice de-escalste volatile interactions with 'Sovereign Citizens' (anti-govt)? Analysis of BWC footage suggests more compliance & less resistance, so yes. More respectful dialogue = less resistence & more legitimacy #ARCJC2026
Dr Murphy presenting characteristics of 'Sovereign citizens', an increasing trend since Covid, with tragic consequences in Aus in recent years with police murdered.Examples of police dialogue that comply (and don't) with procedural justice principlesLo and behold, dialogue that complied with procedural justice principles has better outcomes

Dr Matt Davies on his RCT of a co-designed Whāriki Haumaru initiative partnering with Māori wardens to address failures to appear at court. Fusing beh sci & culturally grounded principles, positive results (qual & quant). Excellent e.g. of the fusion needed to improve CJS exp for Māori #ARCJC2026
Dr Davies' slide about the special role Māori wardens have in the Policing whānauDr Davies' slide on qualitative positive feedback gathered from people who experienced this initiative Dr Davies' quantitative results showing when the call was answered from a Māori warden statistically significant improvement in attendance at court (which prevents more serious CJS interaction).

Such a great point by Prof Tyler: a good way to enact change is to align with institutional (e.g., police, customs, etc) interests. Maximise job satisfaction + efficacy. "Find ways to change that do not impose a high cost on the status quo" #ARCJC2026
Prof Tyler's slide saying institutions often resist change (especially that which comes from research) so aligning with your institutional partner's interests help to diminish that resistance.

Hamilton has a make-fun-of rep to NZers, but I find it a very liveable city. Plenty of amenities, parks, eateries etc, & a newly opened theatre. It’s the fastest growing city in NZ for a reason. It’s also the most sheltered from seismic and climate hazards which helps a wimp like me 😁

Some of my colleagues surf before work. Others keep horses. Most adults have at least one social sport or hobby. Morning and afternoon tea are sacrosanct. Stunning nature is on your back doorstep to make the most of. (9/n)
Three surfers pensively wait for the next perfect wave at the ocean at Raglan. In the backdrop are lush green hills that form the coastline. I write this in the tone of someone who can surf. I cannot. But I could watch surfers for hours in this moment.

You can’t swing a cat on the North Island without bumping into a waterfall or hot pool. You can drive to the ski fields in 4 hours. Hamilton is the perfect spot for exploring so many of these natural wonders. Our other campus at Tauranga is stunning. (3/n)

The types of exploitation being reported changed: Criminal and sexual exploitation reports increased, while labour exploitation reports dropped—possibly because fewer people were in workplaces to witness it. 3/
