One of my workplaces is staffed entirely by PhDs. The office kitchen has a sign by the toaster. It reads: Please do not butter bread before placing in toaster. Lemme tell you. Signs like that don’t happen because ONE person did it ONE time.

since California ballots are now out: prop 40 is the billionaire tax, and you should vote yes to stick it to them but both props 41 and 42 are designed to retroactively cancel the billionaire tax because they’re afraid they can’t beat it at the ballot box yes on 40, no on 41 and 42

This excerpt from a Jan. '25 report from TNR is, I think, the *actual* keystone here, and explains in great measure why our latter day 'captains of industry' have extended so much grace and tolerance to Trump's economically suicidal policies.
Wall Street brokers and tech bros alike are celebrating the switch, claiming that they no longer feel the need to culturally consider women, minorities, or disabled people while they talk, reported the Financial Times.

“I feel liberated,” one top banker told the paper. “We can say ‘retard’ and ‘pussy’ without the fear of getting cancelled.… It’s a new dawn.”

Those working in New York’s financial sector also feel that they can ditch their social causes. A number of major Wall Street banks and money managers have quit industry groups focused on climate change and cutting carbon emissions, feeling that they instead can go full-throttle on making money without facing social repercussions.

“Most of us don’t have to kiss ass because, like Trump, we love America and capitalism,” another Wall Streeter told the pink page.

The Department of Homeland Security and Los Angeles US Attorney Bill Essayli took time out of the day to fact check me, and in so doing appear to suggest that their own lawsuit is wrong. I hope the California is paying attention; they are saying online what they weren’t willing to say in court.

Once again @USAttyEssayli continues to
SERIOUSLY misrepresent what is going on here.

@USAttyEssayli

That's not true. The 20k represents the number of noncitizens confirmed by a review of federal databases. This has been confirmed by @USCIS and @HSI_HQ. The data has been provided to California, and they are free to check the work. But that suggests California is actually interested in complying with federal election laws.Another QT of my post:

Incorrect, the numbers add up.
DHS's July figure, up to 190,832 records, was a PRELIMINARY universe of CA voter-registration records that matched records of aliens in DHS holdings that were pending manual review. The approximately 20,000 referenced in @TheJusticeDept's complaint are just the subset of records manually verified so far.
Preliminary screening and completed verification are not the same thing — there is zero discrepancy.Lawsuit screenshot: 45. As part of an investigation into unlawful voting, USCIS-after executing the processes just set forth-sent to HSI for further assessment a list of more than 20,000 individuals who USCIS believes are registered to vote in the federal election in California and are likely noncitizens.
46. HSI then performed its investigative process described above and reasonably believes that around 20,000 noncitizens are registered to vote in California. This means
that, consistent with state law, nearly 20,000 noncitizens in California have been sent a vote-by-mail ballot to participate in the federal election (or will receive one), with many addresses listed in Los Angeles County.Lawsuit screenshot: 60. To be sure, the United States actively investigates and prosecutes incidents of unlawful voting. But it is not practicable or feasible for the United States to investigate before the 2026 election concludes thousands, let alone tens of thousands, of individuals that two federal investigative offices identified on the California voter roster as likely being sent vote-by-mail ballots. California is thus knowingly imposing an obstacle on the United States' ability to enforce 18 U.S.C. § 611 by facilitating unlawful voting rather than working with the Federal Government to prevent it.

Quantum is poised to become a multi-trillion dollar industry in the next few years. We think New Yorkers should share in that profit.

That's why we negotiated that New Yorkers get board seats and a 15% stake of intellectual property that comes out of NYU's Quantum Fabrication facility.

Because all New Yorkers should benefit from the economic success of this city.
