Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 01/10/2026You can always rip it back if you hate it. Post pics when you’re done! 110
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Are you starting to work the crown decreases? If so, it might not be too noticeable. But if you’re still in the middle of the body, you’ll probably see it more. Your decision, though. You could just call it a design feature lol 110
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026💯 That’s the beauty of making your own clothes, you get to choose your own adventure! 030
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026It depends a lot on the stitch pattern and the project, but it has the potential to be very noticeable. But say more! 110

Reposted by JillElizabeth Nee @enee.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Also, look at books! There were multiple books written by Amy Herzog about customizing patterns for fit. Big Girl Knits, by Jillian Moreno and Amy Singer, is another one recommended for customizing shaping. 021
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I think you nailed a key part of it re: size inclusivity. Also the churn of social media advertising means designers have to pump out more and more content. So they can't/won't take the time to put more care into thoughtful construction and proper pattern grading. 010
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Some knitwear designers who I think excel at this are: Hinterm Stein: www.hinterm-stein.com Natasja Hornby: www.moonstruck-knits.com Inês Oliviera www.ravelry.com/designers/ve... But there are many, many more. Keep experimenting and fill your closet with the knitwear of your dreams! 4121
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I see so many new knitters frustrated by the fit of their garments. I want to encourage them to look beyond popular top down circular yoke sweater patterns and explore some with different constructions (especially seaming and shoulder shaping!) to give them the fit they're looking for. 160
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A lot of us knit because we want to have more control over the fit and feel of our garments. The sewists among us already know about tailoring and structure, but I don't see it discussed as much in the knitting community. 180
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026You can see how much shaping happened in just the upper bodice of this dress. It's the strategic use of stitch increases and decreases to create a 3D shape out of flat fabric. 170
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Tailoring, on the other hand, uses shaping techniques so the fabric perfectly follows the contours of your body without stretching over them. This gives the garment a structured look and also allows you to use materials that don't have the same stretch memory as wool, like silk and cotton. 170
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026A lot of knitting patterns rely on negative ease (the garment being smaller than your body measurements) to create a fitted look. There's nothing wrong with this, it's just the practice of relying on the knitted fabric's ability to stretch over the contours of your body. 140
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I had a good conversation with someone about this pattern and why the fit is so perfect. I think #knitsky will appreciate it. 🧶 4304
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Yeah, there are regular increases and decreases, which aren’t difficult, but do require you to pay attention. 020
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026You’re probably close, but I’m afraid to do the math. Thank you! 020
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026They don’t consider miles of mindless stockinette on the skirt difficult, but I sure did 🫠 150
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The pattern is the Melides Dress by Inês Oliveira! The yarn is Purl Soho Cattail Silk, which wasn’t my favorite to work with, but I love the fabric post-blocking. 140
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026It's really fun to learn. Now that I know more about tailoring and shaping, it gives me more confidence to alter patterns so they'll fit better. 020
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026The pattern developer, Inês Oliveira,is amazing. She put so much time and care into explaining all of the factors that go into fitting a garment for your exact measurements, including formulas for adjusting row gauge, etc. 150
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Thank you! The pattern is incredible. It’s the Melides Dress by Inês Oliveira. 090
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Lmao I did, but only because I entered it into the state fair. Otherwise I probably would have just tied knots. 090
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I don’t think I ever posted the MN State Fair judges’ comments. They were so lovely. 1300
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 29/09/2026I’m late to #showmeyourknits, but this beauty just made her public debut for a work event and I have never looked hotter? It’s not elaborate, but it’s the most perfect fitting garment I’ve ever made. Tailoring is a miracle. I need to take some real photos soon. 🧶 221533
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 22/09/2026Today’s matchup is between Amy (L), who always looks like she’s carrying triplets even when she’s not pregnant and Eddie (R), who is Amy’s son and assumes the shape of a perfect orb with legs when viewed from behind. 1293

Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 20/09/2026💯 My Zojirushi bread maker and rice cooker are the only appliances that I keep out on my counter because I use them so much. Incredible machines. 030
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 20/09/2026The policies pushed forward by the DFL trifecta (led by Melissa Hortman) three short years ago that have made real, material positive differences in millions of lives = politicians haven't done shit? Ok Jan. 210
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 19/09/2026I’ve actually heard conflicting advice about this. For long term storage, vacuum sealing might damage and compress natural fibers. Some people report their yarn being fine, but I’m too nervous to try it. 130
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Dooooo itttttttt. I don’t do many road marathons anymore, but there are some world class ones in MN. 010
Jill @lintstorm.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Thank you!!! It was much more pleasant than I expected. It’s a cool, overcast day and perfect for running. 020
