It's almost like railroading in a tabletop context; a GM can do everything in their power to tell their story, but ultimately it's collaborative! And if you're not accounting for player behaviour, you're missing a whole chunk of the medium!

I think there's also something to be said for gamedevs seeing themselves as auteurs almost, curating a specific experience for players! Which, like, you can be, but also there's never a guarantee that players will get whatever it is you want them to get from the work!

Anyway, I say this because I think it's such a funny thing to be scared about! Like, isn't that what all art is? What all storytelling is? People will experience it on their terms, and one person will almost certainly experience it differently than another!

Like, vision and authorial intent will still influence the player experience, but also developers can't control player behaviour and choices at the best of times! Nor can they make a player stick it out if they're not having fun, regardless of accessibility! You can only make art and hope it lands!

I feel like a game is already a polymorphic object regardless of accessibility though!! Different people will have different experiences with them based on their individual contexts, experience with games and other media, stories, etc! Even gameplay-wise, if someone isn't genre-savvy!

I think fashion could also be a more nebulous stat, maybe ranging from RADICAL or ARTSY to CLASSY or GRIMY depending on your choices/clothing and appearance? Maybe also affects masc/femme stats.

Oh domme/sub stat would be funny. Top/bottom energy. Maybe as a hidden stat. Can you actually top someone, or do they walk all over you? Do they LIKE one thing or the other? Might be better suited to picking dialogue options, but 🤔

Idk how novel any of this stuff is, but I think it’s interesting to think about!!

Or what if some characters are okay with you seeing multiple people including them, and some aren’t? What if some are especially jealous? What if there’s a masc/femme stat that dictates some interactions, and influences character attraction? Pronoun system?

What if you romance one character, and then they want a poly triad/V with you and another character? And if you agree, it slightly degrades your relationship with character B for a bit bc they’re insecure (unless you invest in them too/first) but character A is happier?
