You can't get an ISBN in Canada for works created with AI. And that means stores can't easily buy it or sell it! They permit only limited AI tasks like formatting.

Before people learned music with 'do re mi', the sequence once began with 'ut' as the lowest note. The absolute lowest note recognised in medieval music was 'Γ ut', with the Greek letter gamma, and 'Γ ut' came to refer to the full range of possible notes. This is behind the phrase 'run the gamut'.

Of all the weird recurring motifs of the stories people tell me about the AI labor wars, the *weirdest* is when bosses demand to be reassured that their contractors and workers will *absolutely* use AI to get the job done.

Merci! 🦋 Amazingly, the French side has been great! Responsive, on the ball, etc. The Spanish-side experience was awful: delays, delays, delays, dropped balls, lots of stress and frustration on our end. We're paying more in France, naturellement, but it's totally worth it.

Doing some complicated (for me) and time-sensitive cross-border admin and grateful that I can translanguage — that is, throw in bits of Spanish — when my French fails me in real time. It noticeably reduces some of the stress I feel around the whole endeavor, and we're getting things done! 😅💪

Keeping an eye on it while you write can save you the pain of having an editor ask you (sometimes months later) for the URL that you'd intended to include. (If we ask you, it probably means we couldn't easily find it by searching online, which could mean it then becomes a massive faff for you.)

I encourage writers to join sessions and groups facilitated by other writing support folk as well, as it’s hard to keep the momentum on your own. There are a lot of people out here in the research and academy adjacent space who care deeply about supporting scholars and provide excellent guidance.

I always encourage retreaters to create their own social writing spaces as a way to keep their writing on track, make some space to check on their writing practice, and keep morale up through the giving and receiving of peer support. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I'm pleased to no end.
