Earth’s oceans just broke a heat record. The implications will be massive
Human-caused global warming and a strong El Niño are adding excess heat to the oceans, threatening marine life and providing storms with more energy and moisture.

And when people ask what should the Democrats do, particularly in light of the fact that the President retains a veto: plenty. I will start with the petty: do not invite the President to give the SOTU. Have him send a letter. A more substantive approach: it is time to audit the Executive Branch.

It's simple. Big Oil & Big Coal give millions to help get Trump elected. He lets them pollute more. You get dirtier air, extreme heat, flooding, & droughts.   Trump's trading away your health & safety to pad his donors' pockets.   Polluters win, Trump wins, you lose.

45 years ago, I wrote in the Journal of the Public Health Association (with John Holdren) that the worst environmental liabilities of coal weren't air pollution or mining problems, but the threat of #climate change. It's still true today.
A sentence from the 1981 JPHA article: "The most important environmental liability of coal is not the occupational toll of mining or the public toll from coal-transport accidents (the most easily quantified impacts of coal), or the direct damage to public health from airborne sulfates (quantifiable in principle, but highly uncertain in present practice);rather it is the threat of global climate change posed by accumulating atmospheric carbon dioxide"

If I were emperor for a day, one change I'd make: In every political race, at every level, at least the *first* debate would be replaced by a simple test of knowledge. How do taxes work? What agency is responsible for what? Is your area growing or shrinking in population? Just basic stuff.

Yes, we have Hawaiian Telcom. That incident turned out to be a problem w/the network that resolved after an hour or so. For me, their greatest advantage is that we can run the modem on generator when the power goes out, so we can still have Internet and know what's going on around us.

If you see The Green Man's Debt will be published on 10th September and realise you planned on catching up with The Green Man's Holiday? Good news! The ebook is a UK Kindle 99p deal throughout September and price-matched on other websites. www.amazon.co.uk/Green-Mans-H...
Cover art by Ben Baldwin shows a creature crouching in a low tunnel entrance lined with grey stones and partly hidden by green undergrowth and white flowers. The creature has pale skin covered in sparse black hair and it looks a bit like an ape, a bit like a bear, and completely unlike either of those.

Cover copy reads: When your mother’s a dryad and you’re an only child, you don’t have much experience of big family events. But Daniel Mackmain’s girlfriend, Finele, has a whole load of relatives. They’re all coming to her sister Iris’s wedding. Frankly, Dan’s dreading it. At least plenty of other guests will have connections to the supernatural. The bride and groom can turn into swans, for a start.
Since Dan’s still a loner at heart, he and Fin have planned a few days away together afterwards. Just the two of them in a quiet country cottage should be nice and relaxing. Dan should have remembered what folk wisdom says about making plans.
