20 September 1933. Annie Besant died (aged 85). She fought for many causes including freedom of thought, women’s rights, secularism, birth control, socialism, workers’ rights and Indian independence. She was the author of over 300 books and pamphlets.

This is extraordinarily bad, as even the UK copyright libraries (e.g. Cambridge) have moved over to frequently only acquiring the ebook version of new publications. If you don't own the hard copy, you're just renting and you are at the mercy of the publisher.

FACT OF THE DAY. 7 August 1974. French stuntman Philippe Petit walked a tightrope between the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre, New York City. The feat was unauthorised by the owners of the buildings. In 2008 Man on Wire a documentary about Petit’s walk between the towers was released.
