20 September 1933. Annie Besant died (aged 85). She fought for many causes including freedom of thought, women’s rights, secularism, birth control, socialism, workers’ rights and Indian independence. She was the author of over 300 books and pamphlets.

I think I spot the remainder of the image from the shoe sole on the bible outside (just a little flourish), which leads me to think that the image is not an ex libris but a decoration from the actual cover, now trodden on (which would take the satire a STEP further haha)
