i am genuinely bewildered by people who say that the rise of white nationalism in the republican party is a response to the "woke left." like, did the woke left cause pat buchanan's 1992 presidential campaign? is the woke left why steve king had a long career in congress?

Trump says he’s banning CNN, MSNOW and Politico from the White House, a clear violation of the First Amendment
I am proud to announce that, effective immediately, I am banning Fake News CNN, MSNOW (who recently changed their name from MSNBC due to lack of viewership and credibility!), and Politico (The recipients of an illegal and ridiculous $8 Million Dollar subscription, an All Time Record, directly from the United States Government, under Crooked Joe Biden, in order to keep them "alive." Seems like corruption to me!), from the White House as a result of their constant "reporting" FAKE NEWS! Media Outlets shouldn't be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they're covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America.
Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DONALD J. TRUMP

Abdul El-Sayed’s win represents a big blow to the politics of bygone days. Because if one campaign can show that *that* much money and *that* much old guard support doesn’t guarantee victory, it cracks open what can be imagined. It widens the aperture of what’s possible.

Clarence Thomas's concurring opinion in the trans sports ban case in West Virginia contains some of the ugliest transphobic stuff I have ever seen in a legal opinion. Straight-up gleeful. Vile man. www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
2 WEST VIRGINIA v. B. P. J.
THOMAS, J., concurring
judgment). Because “gender dysphoria” is a mutable men-
tal state that is the object of psychiatric treatment, it does
not resemble the immutable characteristics on the basis of
which our precedents have applied heightened scrutiny—
race, sex, or national origin. Instead, gender dysphoria re-
sembles other characteristics on the basis of which legisla-
tures may classify with a merely rational basis. See, e.g.,
Heller v. Doe, 509 U. S. 312, 321 (1993) (mental illness);
Plyler v. Doe, 457 U. S. 202, 220 (1982) (immigration sta-
tus). Legislatures have many obvious rational bases to
keep men who believe that they are women out of teams
and private spaces reserved for women.
Second, as the Court recognizes, this case concerns “bio-
logical men” and “boys who identify as girls.” Ante, at 10,
27. Men and boys with gender dysphoria are not women or
girls, even if they believe that they are. Sex is an immuta-
ble “biological” characteristic, see ante, at 10; it is binary;
and “man” and “woman,” “boy” and “girl,” are the terms that
correspond to adults and children of each sex. See A. Byrne,
Are Women Adult Human Females? 177 Philosophical
Studies 3783, 3786–3787 (2020). To use language to ob-
scure reality—to show “indifference regarding the truth”—
is to lie to the public and cease to treat our fellow citizens
“as equal[s].” J. Pieper, Abuse of Language—Abuse of
Power 17, 21 (1992).

WASHINGTON, DC - Democratic Mayoral Candidate Kenyan McDuffie issued the following statement in reaction to the updated primary election results as of June 18:
"While the final certification process will continue, it is clear that the voters have chosen a different path. Earlier this morning, I called Councilmember Janeese Lewis George to congratulate her on her victory and wish her success as she prepares for the general election.
I want to thank every voter who participated in this election, the tens of thousands of Washingtonians who placed their faith in our campaign, and all of our volunteers, supporters, staff, family members, community leaders, and neighbors who believed in our vision for the future of our city.
The campaign may be over, but the work of building a safer, more affordable, more prosperous city continues."

Years ago Scalia provoked gasps in the gallery when he called the Voting Rights Act a “racial entitlement.” But turning American democracy back into a white racial entitlement, as it was for most of American history, is exactly what the Roberts Court is doing. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
The Court decided in Shelby County’s favor; in her dissent, the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg wrote that Section 5 had “worked and is continuing to work to stop discriminatory changes.” Nullifying it, she warned, is “like throwing away your umbrella in a rainstorm because you are not getting wet.”

The deluge is enough to refill America’s whites-only pools. The vaunted “progress” the justices cite at every opportunity to justify gutting the VRA was a result of the law effectively neutralizing racial discrimination, not an absence of the desire or intent to discriminate. Scalia’s remark that the VRA was a “racial entitlement” is illuminating in the way that statements from many ideologues are, in that they express their own motives rather than those of their targets. Until 1965, democracy itself was a “racial entitlement” in America. Much of the Republican Party is trying to make that true once again.

The war on birth control access is well underway, it's just less explicit Planned Parenthood says 50 of its clinics closed last year as a result of an anti-abortion budget provision—and nearly all of them were in contraceptive deserts (link in alt). Translation: it's now harder to get birth control
screenshot of fact sheet from Planned Parenthood Federation of America (c3) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (c4) with first bullet point highlighted in yellow:
https://www.plannedparenthood.org/uploads/filer_public/68/a6/68a6c411-5e28-4112-b7ec-ce3bc3043574/fact_sheet_c3c4.pdf

Republican Lawmakers and President Trump are Decreasing Access to Birth Control and Dismantling the Health Care Safety Net
H.R. 1 [the "Big Beautiful Bill"] and its provision “defunding” Planned Parenthood to try to block patients from using Medicaid at Planned Parenthood health centers — combined with the months of withheld Title X funds in 2025 — left entire communities without access to basic care. As attacks from the Trump administration and its backers in Congress continue, health care costs are rising for patients and communities, as other providers cannot fill the gap left by Planned Parenthood health centers.

IT’S EVEN HARDER TO GET BIRTH CONTROL
Taking away access to birth control and basic care creates contraceptive deserts in more communities

*In 2025, over 50 Planned Parenthood health centers closed across 18 states, including over 20 closures since H.R. 1 was passed. Nearly all closures occurred in contraceptive deserts.
• When people cannot afford the full cost of contraception, they rely on a network of publicly funded providers that offer free or
reduced-fee care through public funding, primarily Medicaid coverage and Title X-funded services for individuals living with low-incomes or uninsured.
*Planned Parenthood health centers serve one-third of all female patients seeking contraceptive care at publicly funded health clinics.
• Over half of the counties where a Planned Parenthood health center closed now lack any Planned Parenthood provider. In those counties, these centers provided the majority of contraceptive care for low-income women in those counties
