Geomantic testing: After testing movement, found that 75cm x 75cm (about 2.5 feet per side) is, if not the sweet spot for board size, much closer than I was working with, so I chopped my board down, and... it even *looks* more like it should. Plus at that scale, "kitchen table" is a real option.

So, the OSR has light anti-shovelware properties - Like, that's where you'll find tons of people who'll make a "101 magic items" and giant random tables, and genuinely try to elevate that and make them GOOD. GenAI, on the other hand, drives mega-shovelware environments. (+)

On the specific example: The more you require the GM to come up with interesting stakes on the fly (esp. complex ones past pass/fail), the more support with examples & devices (handy pick lists, insiring doodads like tarot) is wanted, AND the less frequent rolls should be. It's fun! It's work.

Here's a flowchart as to some (non-exhaustive) ways how information discovery rolls can work in TTRPGs, in an attempt to explain why I dislike investigation / insight / perception checks in D&D (shout out to @levikornelsen.bsky.social for his insightful play loop flowcharts that inspired this one):

"Memorization" is where, unless blocked by other bits, a LLM can produce straight plagiarism, which means it's holding (usually) an unauthorized copy in memory (holding it VERY WEIRDLY, but holding it), and so could be sued. Big money LLMs block you from testing for this, because: Again, sued.
