Still arguing about the D&D union (ENWorld, baby), and some people, I gotta say, are living in a whole other universe than mine:

Attempt 2: Not perfect, but good enough for testing...

Me: I think the movement here would be improved further if each side's starter was a quick little boat. Doesn't need to be complicated. *Whips up something fast, prints it* Still me: No, that's a surfboard.

Gamers out here showing that they understand that most fundamental of economic realities:
Screen grab from Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The lead ape, Caesar, is holding a bundle of sticks to make his point, which is written across the photo, and is "Apes together Strong".

Geomantic testing: After testing movement, found that 75cm x 75cm (about 2.5 feet per side) is, if not the sweet spot for board size, much closer than I was working with, so I chopped my board down, and... it even *looks* more like it should. Plus at that scale, "kitchen table" is a real option.

Test setup on 3x3 board: This may actually be slightly too large, but it IS nice to lay out a full spread.

That old thrill of "I once again have a board for wargames", but it's just a pale cloudy blue.

Box and lid, which double as deployment tray and discards: Took a fair bit more effort than expected to get good size, fit, general feel, while balancing sturdiness and material used.

Thinking I might want to actually just use the TinkerCAD visuals directly as illustrations? Be kind of amusing staging example scenes in the design platform, but hey, they've got *clarity* going for them.

I'm gonna need a bigger board to enable "islands sliding around as vehicles", but this is promising.

Progression toward "Magical monolith I can stack pyramids on but won't be mistaken for a tree at a glance", left to right.

Fun nonsense: My new trees are in fact stacked pyramids, looney / icehouse style (though mine are smaller). This is gonna be a theme; I want pyramids for tokens, so I'm going to try and tuck them in all over...

Still need to figure out the specific token and token-holding device (standing stone?) for "geomantic power here/island control", but I now have a rough concept on this...

Listen, if you want to interview invented characters who are also actors and have been in movies, old tech is vastly superior to new in this field.

Okay, getting close now; the bigger ones here are 75% of the design scale (which was just "convenient in TinkerCAD"), and the smaller ones are 50%. The 100% set were needlessly big. Now printing at 62%, see where those are relative to the sweet spor.

Okay, now. Got me some tiny people. About 20 cents in plastic (plus 2hrs print time, cleanup, power, etc, but materials are... not a cost issue here).

Testing of scenario rules is leading to my boards actually starting to look like they represent *something,* though it rakes an effort to visualize *what.*

Feeling confident enough that basic play in Geomantic is going to get locked down nicely that I'm starting in on the bits for scenario play, which are very much about turning it into a... Skirmish game without violence? Kinda?

Geomantic: Playtest Round 2! Put in the fix to the big issue I've had in the solo part of my second round of playtests. Figured I should share the file for anyone that wants to give this a go at home. I think it's, like, a *good game* now. Token-heavy! But good. drive.google.com/file/d/1LE82...

Every so often, someone says that TTRPGs are eventually going to break into little clusters that don't talk, and separate entirely design-wise. That's absolutely never going to happen, and I can explain why. It starts with the idea that TTRPG design tech is steadily improving, which, look: (+)

Geomantic: After more of solo testing and refining, and one whole game with someone else, this is now an actual print & play game. I don't know that it'll hold up to "playing it a bunch and discovering the strategies", but it's certainly a neat puzzle to play at. (1/2)

Concept test as two-player board game: You need this map, 3 meeples or pawns each in two different colours (6 in all), a d6, and a LOT of glass beads or cubes in three colours; I'm assuming black, white, and green. 1/
