Our living review has now synthesised 846 articles examining problems with systematic reviews. Reporting improved in some areas, but persistent concerns remain around methodological quality, transparency, spin, conflicts of interest, and global representation. authors.elsevier.com/a/1nTHE3BcJQ...

When evidence is incomplete, expert input matters, but it should be transparent, inclusive, rigorous and objective. The INTEGRITY Framework supports credible expert involvement in research. See our paper: link.springer.com/article/10.1... #ResearchIntegrity #Experts #UKRI #MRC #ESRC #Openaccess
Infographic of the INTEGRITY Framework, shown as a four-piece jigsaw. The four principles are: Transparency: reporting data and materials to enable verification or replication; Rigour: using validated or good-practice, pre-specified methods and clear aggregation approaches; Inclusivity: selecting credible experts with diverse disciplinary, geographical, cultural and interpersonal perspectives; and Objectivity: addressing cognitive biases, group dynamics and conflicts of interest.

📢 Come work with us! The Open Research Manager is a reformulated role in our team - it would suit someone with a strong research support background, but I'm happy to chat to anyone about the role and criteria.

Scientists say they used LLMs to reproduce 12 gold-standard #Cochrane systematic reviews in 2 days - rather than 12 years. But other experts are sceptical; the system doesn't automate some review steps and needs independent testing. My news story for @nature.com www.nature.com/articles/d41...

AI slashes time to produce gold-standard medical reviews — but sceptics urge caution
Although language models can help to accelerate systematic reviews, a fully automated system is still some way off.

Many thanks Stephen. We tried to squeeze as much research culture as possible in this summary to get conversations moving. Those who are too busy or important to care about research culture may well be the problem with it! Hopefully the REF will lead to incentives evolving with the times.
