I am stuck between how much I hate all this for the people who have their work stolen and how much I am frustrated by people who believe they should be able to do absolutely nothing to verify where something is coming from and still be confident it’s going to work.

Python was awarded a funding grant, funding grant asked Python foundation to remove all diversity and inclusion initiatives they have. Python foundation said no and rejected the grant. If you use Python, send a few dollars to the charity to keep it going. I’m pushing a dono on behalf of ScamGuard.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city. They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

"Selling Out Is Bad" is a valuable concept and despite all the baggage and bullshit and elitism it could contain it's actually really good to reinforce the ideal that having integrity when it matters, especially when it hurts, is what good/cool people do. Should be adapted instead of jettisoned.

I found this to be a particularly helpful sentiment getting into another day of … this.

Despite what it might feel like, the future remains malleable. Indeed, every potential future is a frail and unlikely thing. Some are more likely than others, but the one we end up in is the one we breathe life into. What we must do, what I believe we were put here to do, is to breathe life into the world we want to see, to commit ourselves to it, to resolve to walk in it, to live in it, to build it. There are things worth living for, and these things are bigger than ourselves, bigger than any one person. My advice is to find people who agree, and join your breath to theirs.

Amid Jonathan Majors' assault conviction and other disturbing allegations against him, both Magazine Dreams and his celebrity have taken on new relevance. They've also become the focus of an increasingly strange discourse in today's social media era. My latest: www.thedailybeast.com/obsessed/jon...

Should Jonathan Majors’ Movie Have Been Buried for Good?

The discourse surrounding the release of the film amidst Majors’ assault conviction has been a mess.

From a poetry collection by Mary Oliver, where after a hundred poems showcasing gentle observations on nature and animals, she hits you with this

OF THE EMPIRE
We will be known as a culture that feared death and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity for the few and cared little for the penury of the many. We will be known as a culture that taught and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke little if at all about the quality of life for people (other people), for dogs, for rivers. All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity. And they will say that this structure was held together politically, which it was, and they will say also that our politics was no more than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of the heart, and that the heart, in those days, was small, and hard, and full of meanness.
