Yes, there are shitty, hard things about transition. Yes, there are a lot of assholes, some of whom are in positions of power. But this is the easiest thing I've ever done, and most people are pretty cool about it.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

the frame of Health Fascism moves away from individual MAHA behaviors and towards how our health care and social welfare systems, such as they are/aren't, were fertile ground for a far right power grab. @deathpanel.bsky.social has been exploring this for a long time. the full panel chuds clipped:

This era unfolding as I graduated high school and went to college is what helped radicalize my politics. I can see it starting in how I reflected on it all in journals as high school ended and I went to college.

people could respond to this framing around reporting deaths—"had significant underlying health conditions"—with more confidence if we weren't also living through a pandemic in which we have been told only people who have "underlying health issues" are "vulnerable" or "at risk"

This entire thread is very good, but the historical lack of division between what we in modern times think of as "gay" and "trans" identities is something I think about a lot because we absolutely did NOT think of those things as separate for a LONG time. Even in the 90s, the two were conflated

As of tonight, licenses of trans people across Kansas are being invalidated en masse, enabling the overnight criminalization of an entire group of people for going about our lives. It’s often said you never know when you’re living through history, so let me assure you: that’s what’s happening now.
