Hmm. I wonder if a late 3rd century Sasanian hoard just came on the numismatic market? CNG's current auction has 3 drachms of Waharān I (not very common), and 5 of Waharān II on offer. If so, I bet there will be some fancy drachms at the NY International Numismatic Convention in January.
Silver Sasanian drachm coin with crowned king on obverse, fire altar with attendants on reverse. CNG Electronic Auction 576, lot 286.
Description from CNG: "SASANIAN KINGS. Vahrām (Bahram) I. AD 273-276. AR Drachm (27mm, 4.12 g, 3h). Style A/c. ‘Ctesiphon’ mint. Good VF."Silver Sasanian drachm coin with crowned king, queen, and prince on obverse, fire altar with attendants on reverse. CNG Electronic Auction 576, lot 290.
Description from CNG: "SASANIAN KINGS. Vahrām (Bahram) II, with Queen and Prince 4. AD 276-293. AR Drachm (29mm, 3.99 g, 3h). Style A. 'Ctesiphon' mint. Jugate busts of Vahrām (Bahram), wearing winged crown with korymbos, and his queen, wearing kolah with boar’s head, right, vis-a-vis bust of Prince 4, wearing kolah with eagle’s head, left / Fire altar; flanked by two attendants facing outward, each wearing winged crown with korymbos; fravahr to left of flames.
