An LLM solved a coding problem that I had last night in a really elegant way I was not going to think of, and I was mad about it. Then I spent the rest of the evening asking it how to solve all the other problems I had, and it didn't work at all, so now I'm feeling better.

I think every sign in should use passkeys by default with a link emailed to you as a fallback. No option for passwords. Then the factors are having your device, and the once-per-session password or biometric to access your passkeys.

Now available: View dependents of projects! Quite possibly *the* most highly requested feature for many years now, you can now browse for projects that depend on other projects. Also, browse for modpacks that contain the mods you're most interested in playing!
In the "More options" menu on project pages there are two new options, "View dependents" and "View modpacks"A new "Depends on" filter category in search, which lets you select a project and type of dependency you're looking for.A new "Included content" filter category in Modpack search, which lets you search for modpacks that contain selected projects.

Tried out the Unplugged AFK mod as demonstrated by Xisuma - game changer. TBH a huge benefit is that I need the first thing I do in the morning to be thinking about my day and what to do that day, not minecraft. And when I wake up and see minecraft open, my whole day becomes minecraft by default.

Minecraft screenshot: The same blaze sculpture from the quoted post, now in a real minecraft world. It is night. The blaze is glowing and appears to have smoke particles around it.

What a dapper gentleman 😍 #minecraft
A minecraft screenshot of a large statue of a blaze in a void world. A mishmash of blocks are used to closely match the actual blaze colors, and smokey blobs of tinted glass float all around it.

For years we have been overwhelmed by the volume of code contributions we have to review, especially from new contributors. AI has made the problem much worse. That's why we are taking steps to reduce the burden on maintainers while still welcoming new contributors: godotengine.org/article/cont...

gone are the days of hardcoded block chiseling and crushing. chisels and maces are now used in a new block conversion system that's purely data-driven. with this system, you can use any item to turn any block into another while playing any sound + cooldown! #mcdev #minecraftmod #gamedev #minecraft

just finished a microservice in rust. it works. but as it deploys, the logs whisper about alternate realities where function names have deep philosophical meanings. am i the one coding, or am i just a vessel for existential dread?

Why are we making Conway's Game of Life this complicated? Full disclosure, I haven't tested my version yet but dang if I don't feel like I did this right Simply the most confusing match statement possible. The catch-all "otherwise" in the example code will always evaluate to Cell:Dead🤨 #rustlang
Screenshot of two rust language match statements, labeled "my code" and "the tutorial's code". They both calculate the next state of a cell in Conway's Game of Life given the current alive/dead status of the cell. The one labeled "my code" has two match patterns that are both very clear and concise. The match statement labeled "the tutorial's code" has five match patterns that are a mess.

If you're really interested in a technical difference, up until Dall-E was released in 2021, a lot of things passed as AI. Since then, the "AI" everyone thinks of, including text and image generation, have all, to my knowledge, been built on top of a technology called "Neural Networks".

Saying Microsoft "open-sourced" it implies they wrote it and it is now under an open source license. Microsoft didn't write that code. That open source project has been in the works for ages, slowly creeping up toward passing the full test suite. The news is that Microsoft published an .exe fork.

I've gotten more excited about working in the shell since I was recently exposed to the unix philosophy (according to Peter Salus): - Write programs that do one thing and do it well. - Write programs to work together. - Write programs to handle text streams, because that is a universal interface.

Every open source software-backed movement is a slow burning revolution 😂 The more revolutions we have, the more open source becomes a reputable household presence, the more revolutions we'll see and the faster they'll burn.

Raised the ground level & finished the framework Upper & lower courtyards are divide by steps, for now I plan to start one building facade this weekend, just to get an idea of how to move forward
Minecraft screenshot of lower courtyard, facing the upper courtyard (dirt steps)Upper courtyard, purple Terracotta frame will be a lavish building with a grand opening

Inspiration came from an episode of Time Team, Chenies Manor Lower courtyard, from the dirt steps looking toward the very rear of the area, the exit is in the middle-left Upper courtyard, showing a series of smaller buildings just off the main thoroughfare (yellow Terracotta)

When I was a kid learning to code, I immediately figured out that no one around me would see how cool a program was unless it generated a cool visual (they weren't coders). Now if I need a status display on a program, I've got nuanced preferences and the practice to implement it😅 This looks great!

The easiest predictor for which #rustlang libraries have been written by AI is the enthusiasm in the ReadMe. The people who use AI to write their programs always talk about just how mind-blowingly cool their project is because deep down they're still kind of surprised it works.
