I’m seeing a new allergist-immunologist and today he brought up this study about how much Astepro nasal spray, which I use daily, appears to decrease the likelihood of COVID, flu, RSV, etc. I have barely gotten a cold since I started using it but had no idea why. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

My kid has zero physical textbooks and submits writing assignments via Google Classroom and somehow has a backpack just as overstuffed as I had at that age, just for the notebooks, which I bought at the smallest sizes on the teachers' supply lists. It's like Gates's Law for wide ruled paper.

"Choosin' Texas" is the sort of "identity as aesthetic" kind of thing that white people who feel insufficiently represented in popular media can't get enough of, and ruined country music 25 years ago.

To prep for job interviews I've been vibe-coding a shared reminder app, which is the sort of composition of existing ideas that AI is quite good at, but it's extremely funny watching it contemplate the possibility that someone in my household might take my medicine or brush my teeth.

Humaning.
A four-panel comic. In panel 1, a Northern Cardinal and American Goldfinch perch above a busy crowd in a city, looking down. The cardinal says "It's a nice day to go humaning." The goldfinch says "Just look at them. Majestic." In panel 2, a close-up of the two birds. The cardinal says "Nobody tells you that you'll reach a certain age and suddenly get into humaning. I hit 3 years old, and then bam."The birds are looking out over the crowd scene. In panel 3, the cardinal says "Their calls sound funny to us, but each one has a unique meaning." Below, people are saying various things: "I'm tired." "Where's my phone?" "I'd murder a burrito." In panel 4, the birds look down excitedly at a man walking by. The cardinal says "Wait, is that a guy who got dressed in the dark and put his shirt on inside out and backwards?" And the goldfinch exclaims, "Holy... that's a lifer!"

DuckDuckGo's AI has been reading those "What if we had nukes at the start of WW2?" alternate histories.
Iowa-Class Battleship Main Gun Power
Gun Specifications

The Iowa-class battleships were equipped with powerful 16-inch guns. These guns were capable of firing nuclear artillery shells, which had significant explosive yields.
Attribute	Value
Gun Caliber	16 inches
Shell Yield	15 to 20 kilotons of TNT
Energy Equivalent	63,000 to 84,000 gigajoules
Energy Conversion

To understand the energy output in megajoules:

1 kiloton of TNT is approximately equal to 4.184 terajoules.
Therefore, the yield of the Iowa-class battleship's main gun translates to:

Yield (kilotons)	Energy (megajoules)
15	62,730
20	83,640
Summary

The Iowa-class battleships' 16-inch guns were among the most powerful naval artillery ever, with yields ranging from 15 to 20 kilotons, equating to approximately 63,000 to 84,000 gigajoules or 62,730 to 83,640 megajoules. This immense firepower contributed significantly to their role in naval warfare.
